So, after the fan fiasco, I still have a sqeak with the belt and chirping when the a/c compressor kicks on, so I'm going to replace the alt pulley. I have also determined that the thermostat is stuck open, since the heat gauge never hits 1/4 on the gauge. When I put the new radiator on, upper hose looked good, so not replacing that. I am going to replace the thermostat and two small hoses. I do not have the tool kit to remove the pulley, and no local part stores do not carry a kit to rent. While shopping on ID parts I found this http://www.idparts.com/catalog/product_ ... ts_id=3737 Does this kit have the correct bits? I found a gates kit that cost 130 bucks. Rather not spend 130 for a one time use kit. On another note, I'm debating doing the factory pulley or the litens pulley. |

Do you have access to an impact gun? If so, you can use a hex bit on it to remove the pulley. I used one from this set: http://www.harborfreight.com/9-piece-38 ... -7763.html Mike |

I have the lisle set for the pulley, but I'll have to go in the garage and confirm the part number. It does look exactly like mine though. If nobody else will confirm, I'll reply tomorrow with the part number. Btw, get the updated part for the pulley, Litens updated PN 920834. This is from a currently updated thread about the decoupler, the op mentioned it's $78 from advance auto. |

Mike- yes I have a shop with a nice air compressor. I have a harbor freight in the next city over.(25miles away) I'll be making a visit tomorrow. Themorex- that would be awesome on the p/n verification. I do maintain my mothers 2004 325i and it has a decoupler style pulley also. So may be a justifiable purchace. I prefer to spend 30 on a tool set vs 130 for just a few uses.(if I use it again.) Any con's on the Behr thermostat? |

If you have an alternator repair shop close by they can probably supply and install the decoupler for less than you can. |

Dirtmover- I do not have a alternator shop close. That's a issue here in west KY. We have nothing here super useful. Except some good offroading spots. |

Here is the pic with the lisle set that I used for alternator pulley: ![]() Seems to be the same as idparts sells. |

Thanks man. It is the exact kit. I have it on the way along with the behr brand thermo and two small hoses from IDparts. Got the litens pulley on the way from Advance auto parts. Found a 30 dollar coupon. So only 27ish with shipping. |

Due to very nasty weather for this area. My parts were delayed a bit. Just received my orders today. My litens pulley came with a hex key for installation. I thought that was awesome. I looked at my behr stat and was displeased seeing one of the ports is plastic. I don't like plastic on thermo housings. Have had nightmare issues with a ford(there is the problem)focus plastic housing. Wished this stuff would have came earlier so I could have installed it before my trip to Nashville this weekend. I'll report back when I get to install everything. |

Yep that's one of the better pictures of the red dust on a bad alternator pulley. FYI all the KJ CRD thermostats come with 2 plastic ports except Kap's and Turbo-diesel-freaks after market ones. The plastic ports are pretty solid at least I've never heard of one breaking except if you try to remove one from the housing. |

Behr is one of the better brands so it should be perfectly good. |

Behr is OEM I believe. My original and the one I bought from a dealer are both Behr's. |

Next round will be a muffler delete(and possibly the cat). And finding a washer fluid pump and get that working. |
