When I last week had the yearly mandatory vehicle inspection I had not fixed the CEL I have on my JEEP. I have now only two weeks left to fix the problem, otherwise it will be a driving ban on the car and then I am not allowed to use it on public roads.

I went to the local Jeep/Chrysler dealer but they couldn´t solve the CEL. They said that it could be the EGR but not by shure. They wanted to replace it with a new but couldn´t promise that this would fix the problem. They also told me it could be the ECU.
To replace the EGR/FCV will cost about $1600 and further a new ECU cost another $1700.

Where should I start?
Remove the entire EGR/FCV units?
Buy a new FCV and replace it myself? or do I also need to replace the EGR?

Does anyone have suggestions that are better than the dealer?

Most likely the FCV gears went bad, if it runs okay, it must be open. Pull off the CA hose going to the FCV, start it, turn off the key and have an observer see if it closes on engine shut down.

Yeah, you most likely need a new FCV or this viewtopic.php?f=98&t=78418. A GDE tune will also make it go away.

You could just remove the plate (butterfly) out of the FCV and unplug the wire going to it, then remove and cap the EGR valve/pipe, and then install the correct tune for your OBC available on this forum at:

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=98&t=78418
The correct tune will disable the DTC (CEL) with both the EGR and the FCV unplugged and discarded.
Then order and install the Weeks elbow kit and completely remove and discard the FCV assembly.

If you insist on keeping the FCV, I got a good used one and an EGR valve and cooler if anyone needs either of them. PM me!

The problem is for the moment solved. I got help from Yeti who made a EGR/FCV tune to my ECU file. The CEL is gone.

Now I have time to decide if I should install the elbow kit or not.

It is an extremely good mod for a CRD if you do decide to install it, your Jeep will love you for it!!!!!
There has not been any negative feedback on the Weeks Elbow Kit that I am aware of....
Go for it!!!!
