As I hear of more and more cracked blocks. I wonder if ARP's are even more important to help avoid this problem?

Has anyone had a cracked block after installing ARP's?

I don't see how ARP studs could contribute to a cracked block, when the head is so much weaker and can be crushed by too much stud pressure.

That said - the cracked blocks all seem to have been at the back end (of course! :banghead: ) and into a water jacket. This engine *might* allow that to be fixed, since the block itself shouldn't be responsible for retaining the combustion pressures and booms... Just the water pressure since the water jacket is outside the cylinder liners. Thankfully, the cylinder liners are stronger steel and not the cast pig iron that the block seems to be.

Whether the blocks can be welded or if these leaks are a good candidate for JB Weld (A cracked Caterpillar block IS one of their marketing stories)... I don't know. I haven't personally seen or messed with any of them yet.

hmm, I imagine you're right, but still feel like the uneven pressure through the heat cycle might crack weak iron. Then again, more pressure from ARP's might help a weak block crack, who knows. Maybe a good mechanical engineer will chime in with and give an opinion?

Mine cracked in a non-stressed area. I am convinced its a casting flaw that eventually manifested itself. I had it professionally welded, then I slathered JB weld over it, and then RTV. It held for about 15 minutes at idle before spreading and leaking coolant again. It did not originally have ARP's when I noticed it originally pissing out coolant. I installed ARP's after I had the block welded so obviously, they're not the cause. I fixed it by swapping the internals to a block that had a rod failure
