Post subject:  Blown head gasket, head warped, runs great now

My 2006 CRD was overheating when driving over 60mph and loosing a little coolant but no leak. Radiator was pressurized even after sitting overnight. Engine got hot once few months ago, botton reservoir hose split, seemed ok at first but I suspected some damage. After trip to dealership they couldnt make a positive assesment.140,000 mi so I figured I'd tear it down to change timing belt and check head gasket.
Head gasket looked bad, took head to the shop and it was warped .26mm which is out of spec to surface head. called IDparts, ordered Head, Head Kit, ARP Stud Kit, timing belt kit, Water Pump, serpentine belt kit, pulleys, motor mounts, glowplugs, Hoses & EGR delete kit from Sasquatch, all about $4K. Took me a month working on it nights, I'm not a professional mechanic.
Got it back together couple days ago, what a difference! The EGR system had restricted the intake with black sticky stuff. I'd say bloked at least 30% of intake air. My mileage had been decreasing over the years, was getting only 16mpg city and 20 hwy. Just checked first 3/4 tank and already getting 22 City! Running stronger than ever, amazing!
