Post subject:  2005 CRD Intermittent Acceleration Problem

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
As the title states, my 05 Liberty CRD is experiencing an intermittent acceleration issue. On occasion, there is a severe lack of power when accelerating. For example, when I apply throttle to accelerate, then engine normally raises in RPMs but accelerates at a dangerously slow speed. If I then apply full throttle, the RPMs shoot up, but the vehicle goes nowhere and will not shift up until I take all throttle off. When the vehicle does shift up, it is sharp and "clunky", for lack of better terms.

I have found that if I take all way off for a few seconds when I experience the problem, it sometimes ceases and returns ro normal safe operation This lack of power happpens both when accelerating from a stop and when already moving, and occurs numerous times under normal driving conditions with light load. I had a trusted local mechanic pull the codes, and observed the following:

P0105 - Turbo Inlet Pressure Sensor
P0101 - Mass Airflow Sensor Cir Performance
P0401 - Min EGR Flow Detected
P0299 - Turbo Boost Under Boost Conditions
P0100 - Mass Airflow Active

The last code, in particular, is odd due to the fact than the ORM was done at the time of the scan. I have tried flushing the ATF (done by mechanic prior to this date), disconnecting the battery and letting it sit, and undoing the ORM by plugging the sensor back into the intake. Everything on the vehicle is stock, and it has 102,000 miles. I plan on taking it in to a trustes CJD dealership, and seeing what thwy have to say. Any help in this issue is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Nick

Check your Intercooler hoses (loose or cracked) first...common problem.

Yes, check your CAC hoses as was suggested--be thorough, as they tend to split in a way that is hard to see (esp. if you have the factory protective webbing/wrap). You could also have some EGR issues (clogged, sticking or leaking), but first check the vacuum actuation system for the turbocharger to rule it out as the cause:

Unless there is a tech at your dealer who has actual experience with KJ CRDs (you should ask before even taking it in) they likely will not be of much help. Most don't even know they exist.

You got that absolutely RIGHT!!!!!
Most dealers service reps and mechanics did not even know they ever built these little diesels...
Ask me how I know...
