The delayed shift/shudder happened to my crd twice in the 3 weeks i've owned it---900 miles on the clock. The dealer closest to me wouldn't even discuss it with me unless they could reproduce the problem. I explained to him the odds of it happening seem to be 2 in 21 since Ive had it 3 weeks and it happened twice and that I couldn't leave it there for a week waiting for it to happen. I mentioned the tsb on the vehicle,,,he said "don't believe everything you see on the internet!",,what a joke, he even refused to verify if the tsb in question existed.....it was a challenge to remain calm.

I then called the dealer where I bought it (20 miles away), the service guy asked for the 20 digit code on the tranny, said it fell under the tsb and made me an appointment to have the work done. That was more of what I had in mind.

Cool! Yeah, I made an appointment and when I brought it in I brought a printed copy of the TSB. The SW tried to give me the "we have to reproduce the problem" thing but I pointed out where it said in the TSB that is the tranny # fell within the range to do the service. He said he would talk to the SM. I was going to slug him and my wife needed to get to work so I left.

That afternoon they called and the TSB had been performed.

Not sure if I'll have the same luck w/ the reflash TSB. Hate to pay for an oil change just to get a TSB done. Work should quiet down the week after next and I may try to take it in and see what they say.

I routinely experience the transmission shudder when I pass a vehicle then back down to cruise speed. I took mine in to the dealer and he was able to reproduce the problem, and he told me he will have to order parts. After waiting two weeks, I called back to talk to the SM and he said they are still waiting on parts. I asked him what parts were being replaced, and he told me I could view the invoice after the work was done!

My question is do I likely need TSB 21-016-5, and what parts does that include? Other than relying on the dealer, how can I find out if my transmission code falls within the range of those covered by this TSB?

There are several TSB's out that cover transmission issues. They are both covered in the following topic although the title involves one that just is a re-flash of the program and requires no parts.

The second one involves parts but one would not think they would be parts that take a while to order. The two parts include the trnsmission filter, then later the sump filter was added. A topic on that issue is as follows, but some who have had this done still are experiencing the shutter. This covers specific transmission build dates and you need to get the number off the transmission (crawl under the drivers side to find it) to see if yours is in the range.

Finally, some of the transmissions in the above group have lost their torque converters and that is covered under a third TSB that you will need to search for if it is not already buried in one of these. Interestingly, I seem to recall that TSB did not mention specific build dates or previous TSB's. It would seem to me that perhaps your dealer would be ordering a new torque converter if the parts are taking this long.

I had the ECM and TCM updated with the lastest software, and had the tansmission oil return filter replaced (along with 9 quarts of transmission fluid) and I still have the shudder on rare occassion. Yesterday, it happened 3 times. Once at 55mph, once at 60mph, and once at 62mph. All occurred when very gradually reducing throttle to reach a constant speed. Can feel the TC locking and unlocking about 4-6 times per second until I apply throttle ASAP to get rid of the condition.

Now that I've owned this for awhile, I can realize that this has happened occassionally ever since new, and it's nothing major, just noticeable. I'm not convinced that it's not the driveline involved as well. If someone can tell me I'll still get 100+k miles out of the tranny, I'm good with it.

My transmission shifts perfectly thought the gears and under all kinds of acceleration so the problem (if it's a problem) is more complicated than just a filter replacement, or just a reflash, or just a torque converter - must be a combination of things combined with just the right power/torque load/transition of load...
