Hi guys
I know it has probably been discussed to death on here, but when I searched, I couldn't find exactly what I was after.
My problem is the heater blower doesn't work. Well, specifically it only works on a low speed setting. I'm guessing 1. Basically, when I turn the control knob between 1-4, it doesn't alter the speed. I get air coming through the vents unless I turn it to the 0 position on the direction knob. It works hot and cold, so the blend doors are fine, so i'm guessing either the resistor, and/or the speed control knob.
My question I guess is how can I test these to determine which one is faulty?
Sorry for the long post, i'm not very good at short stories

Get a new blower resistor.

anybody know a way to test the individual components?

I don't but it's almost certainly the resistor. The brand is BWD and part number is RU1040 or Standard Motor Products (SMP) RU347 and is listed for a 2001-2004 Chrysler Sebring. To get to the resistor open the glove box then press inward on the latch arms on the left and right side to let it drop down further. The resistor is right there held on by two 5/16 hex head screws. You need to pull out on the red tab about 1/4" to push the release and it required some pressure to get the red tap to pull out.

In theory I suppose you could remove the HVAC control panel, then remove its back cover and see if the 4 position fan switch mechanism is working properly but you say the fan works so you know the switch is providing power to the fan but the fan won't change speeds which is typically caused by a failing or failed resistor. Often the fan speeds drop out 1 at a time until the fan runs at only one speed regardless of knob position.

Thanks for that. I knew where and how to change it, but appreciate the reply! I'm only slightly concerned because I've read in places that even when the resistor is faulty, it still works on speed position 4. But mine doesn't. I've found a brand new mopar one on ebay nice n cheap, so will likely just buy that at some point.

To add to my comment the HVAC control panel is only sold as a unit and runs ca. $150 new although you could probably get a used one off a wrecked gasser for less.

Someone smarter than me on electrical stuff will have comment on how to test the resistor assuming you can test one.

Theoretically you could pull the resistor pack and check the resistance on each of the connections. I don't have a pin-out for the connector or what the appropriate values would be, but it would be pretty easy for someone with a good resistor pack to tell you what they are. Essentially there is decreasing resistance on each connection until you reach full power being passed to the motor. At a guess, I'd say there is no resistor on the highest speed setting which is why it tends to be one that always works. If there has been excessive heat in the pack, I suppose it's possible that the traces for it could be burnt too. It has been over a year since I changed mine, so this is all from memory. But from the research I did at the time; it's a common failure, a cheap fix (<$10), and an easy repair. I'd do that before tearing into the dash, but I'm lazy that way.

On mine, I replaced the resistor and I still have problems.
the blower will slow down when driving. I hit under the glove box and it starts running fast again but then starts to slow down again. Hitting it recently does not cause the fan to run. Almost seems like a bad ground for the blower. I did change fuse and swap relay under hood. Going to pull the blower motor and see if I can find anything here. I pulled it like 6 mos ago and it was fine. Any thoughts?

Do the cabin lights dim when you turn on your high beams?

If the blower resistor was replaced with a working one, you shouldn't have an issue.

Other then the alternator, the motor thermal switch may be tripping and causing the blower to slow down. I'm not sure on how the blowers these days are and if they changed any bit from the older blowers that would turn off when the blower motor coil cooled down.

There was a recall on the blower. You may wish to check the details of that first.

SAFETY RECALL G03 – BLOWER MOTOR applicable to 06 and 07 Liberty. If you have one and did not get notice you can check the For Owners portion of the Jeep website with your VIN for outstanding recalls.

I think I had my blower replaced in the recall...not sure...However, I fixed the problem. I took the motor out of the plastic housing. I took brake cleaner and sprayed the brush area and commutator. Then with Q-tips, turned the blower by hand and it removed some of the black on the shaft. Blew it out with an air compressor. I did notice my brushes are getting close to being spent. Put is all back together and it's working like new. Must have been the accumulated debris on the commutator shaft from the brushes wearing.
