I recently reviewed a write up over at the Turbo Diesel Register regarding repair of a leaking lift pump body on the back of a CP3 injection pump. I am attempting to locate a DGK603 seal kit from a local dealer as my CP3 on my new to me CRD is weeping a little bit.

Have any of you guys attempted this repair? It seems very straightforward and something most guys should be able to accomplish. It'll be even easier for me as the engine is out already!

The CUMMINS and ISUZU DuraMaxx CP3 lift pumps generate regulated 180psi pressure - the KJ CRD CP3 generates only 80psi - could be your leak is not resulted from the lift pump housing seal, but you could try tightening the attaching bolts , jist fer grins'n'giggles

Otherwise, yours is the first I've heard of as being suspect - in any case, it's just pop the cover, new seal, and back together, altho DCJ had listed the lift pump as being non serviceable, back in an other time, a 'nuther century.

Yes, they used to list the lift pump as non-serviceable and dealers still do. I don't blame them for not wanting most techs to tackle something like a CP3 pump........my local dealer is horrific at best and I would feel much better about a replacement pump vs repair on the techs tool box.

It's definitely leaking at the bottom of the pump as there is a nice drop of fuel hanging off of it and evidence of leakage for quite some time............It's actually quite common here in Alaska for these pumps to week as cold seems to affect the o-ring's sealing ability over time.

Basically, the DGK603 seal kit is overkill. The only two items you need to reseal the lift pump are the actual shaft seal and the o-ring that goes around it.

Make sure it's not the cold-deteriorated rubber hose that's dripping

It's not. Those were bone dry if you can believe that!

A lot of the Sprinters MY 2004 to 2006 would have the bolts loosen up on their pumps especially in the winter. Happened on mine as well. So like GM said, try tightening them.

Thanks, much - I'm member over there, but never visit anymore since #2 son dumped his '06 2500 4wd 4dr.

Clean your CP3 with hot, soapy water, or some such, rinse, dry, start the engine, see if you can pinpoint the leak B4 you do anything else
