I guess I missed this from earlier notices, but they indicated in the latest two I received that for KJs with FACTORY installed hitches, such as ours, they want to replace the two rear most mounting bolts. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks as always! DOC |

Take the hitch off, and tell them that is how it came when you bought it. Or if you bought it new, you sold the hitch as you did not need it. ![]() I just got my 2 hitches done 2 weeks ago. |

Took mine to Susquehanna Jeep Dodge in the fall for the recall and they didn't put any parts on mine. All that was done was the OEM hitch was inspected for damage and corrosion, then I was sent on my way after paying for the sunroof drain tube repairs they had also done. |

The Princess's Liberty has the towing package with the hitch on it. I got a call from Auburn Hills about the recall (after consistantly ignorning the notices) mentioning I sould take it in to my local dealership (which is Roseville Chrysler Jeep Dodge) and have it checked. I asked for what. He said for sharp edges and replace rear bolts (IF they can get them off). I asked sharp edges on what and IF they can get the bolts off. Crickets chirping........ I asked, you want me to take my Jeep in to have the incompetents under my Jeep looking for who knows what. Incompetents who stiffed me on rust around the upper brake light while it was still on warranty. Incompetents who stiffed me on transmission repairs while it was still on warranty, never fixed it, then about a month out of the warranty, returning for the same issue (fifth time now) said it was out of warraty and they didn't know what was wrong and would have to tear it apart ($4000.00) and see what was wrong. The incompetents that I had to stand with and explain (while he was working on it) how and what the various codes were that he was calling Chrysler about (it was orm'ed) as he said it was causing transmission issues. The incompetent who agued with me about the codes saying it did cause my transmission issues who later got notified from Chrysler saying the codes he was getting had NOTHING to do with the transmission issues, it was the trasnsmission. I should ask those icompetents. Those are the ones you want me to let snoop around under my Jeep. Crickets chirping...... And, he said, well, the recall isn't mandatory. And I said, I guess having competent techs at the dealerships isn't mandatory either. Crickets chirping..... I said I'll look under it and reapair what ever issues may be awry. I said pleasantly, tell Sergio I said hello. ![]() |

After looking through the wiring section of the forum for the best way to add the hitch wiring (stealership quoted $300), I saw somebody say that the hitch installed as part of the recall is not for towing. Can anybody confirm or deny this please? I ignored the recall at first, not needing the hitch. But now I have a use for it so I'm considering having it done. Thanks! |

mine was inspected in November, the hitch was installed 30 days before the inspection. they gave me a 100.00 visa and 391.00 back for the hitch, which is what I paid for it installed. |

I don't have a hitch at all though. If they install one for the recall, is the hitch a usable one? A post in another thread said that it would be labeled "not for towing." This would be no good to me. Thanks! |

IIRC, the hitch recall notice stated the hitch to be installed (gas tank protection device) was not rated for towing. |

Jay ne ohio I think we may be tied for the owner of the most CRDs I have 4 on my signature but also have one that needs a motor last year that I haven't gotten to yet. I thought all diesel libertys came with a hitch just not the tow package, Maybe it was just all the limiteds, or did someone remove the hitch from the sport model mentioned above that didn't have a hitch? |

Maybe I misinterpreted what rob40wilson03 said. He didn't actually say he didn't have one he just said he had not had a use for one until now. It was my understanding that the recall was to add hitch to protect the gas tank on vehicles that didn't have a hitch. so, I was surprised when they sent notice to diesel models. Then I read it further and it did say to check the two rear bolts and replace them if needed. I didn't ever carry them in for the hitch inspection but they did it when i carried them in for the rear control arm replacement. Still wondering if all Jeep Liberty Diesels came with factory hitch. |

nope, not all Jeep Liberty CRD's came with tow hitch nor tow package. If you got the tow package however it was only a hitch and the tow harness, no upgraded tans cooler etc, so in that context the upgrade to tow is fairly easy (did on my limited with no tow, added hitch and oem tow harness) The recall hitch comes with a decal that says "do not use to tow" the hitch does have a 2" receiver and is from all appearances identical to the hitch for towing you would get if you ordered one thru Chrysler. |

Apparently you are correct think I got that idea from dealer invoice that didn't show a charge for hitch but it could be included in one of the package codes Though of all the limiteds i have looked at over the years ,literally many hundreds, on auto trader etc I have never seen one without a hitch I have seen many without the factory tow package. I don't look at the sports so don't know about them. I have one CRD without tow package and looked into putting 7 pin on it to have brake control . I found several add on harness sources for the 4 pin flat connector seems like they were about $70 It was very difficult to find add on harness for the 7 pin. I had rseigned to just do it from scratch , since it think dealer charges about $300 and i would still have to run the brake controller wire. Did you find a good source for wiring for 7 pin? Or just wiring it from scratch? |

To get the hitch from the factory the KJ or KK must have the tow package installed at the factory. It never came standard on any KJ/KK. |

Learn something new every day. I have one limited that didn't come with tow package and it had identical hitch as others. Guess po had dealer install hitch thats the one I had invoice for. That would make since if they had it installed after they bought it because it wouldn't be on dealer invoice at all. Thanks |

My sport did not come with a hitch. When I had mine inspected, it took about ten minutes and they gave me the $100 gift certificate. So why not get it done, assuming they are still paying you. |

My limited had an aftermarket hitch and no wiring so I will have to agree. |
