Post subject:  Easy way to know the axle ratio?

As the title implies, is there an easy way to know what my axle ratio is?

CRD, of course, 05. I didn't see a tag on the axle. So, is there any other definitive test that does not involve jacking it up, or ???

If you do change between ratios, how is the speedo corrected?

Stock gears? 3.73.

If not sure, pop that cover off and look for roll marks or count the teeth.

Gears dont affect the speedo.

The speedo on my 06 is 3 mph off (bigger tires). Not even worth spending the $90 bucks at the dealership to correct it.

Search the forum.
I'm pretty sure all US spec CRDs came with the same axle ratio.

I believe it's 3.73.

The reason I asked is:

This is what car-part.com says.

(Chrysler 8-1/4), 2.4L (4.10 ratio), from 4/19/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 2.4L (4.10 ratio), thru 4/18/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 2.8L (diesel), 3.55 ratio, from 4/19/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 2.8L (diesel), 3.55 ratio, thru 4/18/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 2.8L (diesel), 3.73 ratio, from 4/19/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 2.8L (diesel), 3.73 ratio, thru 4/18/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 3.7L, 3.55 ratio, from 4/19/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 3.7L, 3.55 ratio, thru 4/18/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 3.7L, 3.73 ratio, ABS, from 4/19/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 3.7L, 3.73 ratio, ABS, thru 4/18/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 3.7L, 3.73 ratio, w/o ABS; from 4/19/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 3.7L, 3.73 ratio, w/o ABS; thru 4/18/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 3.7L, 4.10 ratio, from 4/19/05
(Chrysler 8-1/4), 3.7L, 4.10 ratio, thru 4/18/05

And yes, they sometimes include european versions in their data. For instance, they show a 2.8 for the Nitro...

The reason I ask, is that something's going wrong with mine - it growls while turning to the right, when slowing down, that is, and has developed some whine.

I don't know what's wrong, though it sounds a little like bearings in the differential. Sadly, having anyone do any work on a differential will likely cost well more than just another differential.

Pwrwagon, the only test I know involves using a jack to lift whole axle, marking the pinyon, marking the rear wheel and moving the rear wheel till pinion has one revolution, if wheel moved 3.5-ish revolutions for one pinion revolution then it's 3.55, if to moved 3 and 3/4-ish revolutions its 3.73.
