So, I've been having really bad air-in-fuel problems with this new CRD and have attributed it to the lines in the tank, since everything at the filter head seemed tight. Recently I've read a few posts regarding the problem of accidentally installing the new filter on top of the old small o-ring and ending up with a double o-ring situation.

This got me wondering if the PO of mine had theirs installed correctly so I parked it after work tonight and pulled the filter, which had one broken wire leading to the WIF sensor and the other one broke as soon as I touched it. I got the filter off and low and behold...NO CENTER O-RING! Some people accidentally install two, the PO of mine accidentally installed none. Luckily I have a gen1 assembly at work I can scavenge the o-ring out of tomorrow. My questions are these, would a missing center o-ring cause an air problem and what are the consequences in running without the WIF sensor until I can repair/replace mine?

Thanks!

Leaving that center ring out won't cause air in fuel but will allow a small amount of unfiltered fuel to seep through.

No problems running without the WIF sensor. Sounds like you've been without it for a bit anyway.
