My wife was driving the CRD and it made a "sound like something fell out of it", lost power and pulled off the side of the road. When I got there it would not turn over and showed no codes. There was no oil under the engine. The oil level was high and it was low on coolant. I had a slide back wrecker come and get it. By the time he got it back to my house, there was black oil on the bed of the wrecker. I can not see any place where the block is cracked or any rod through the side. Does anyone have any ideas? Is the motor trash and if so, any suggestions where I could get an engine? Need some help. |

Its too hard to say without taking things apart and inspecting for engine damage. But it sure doesnt sound good. Where are you located? |

Uh-oh... Bleeding on the tow truck is never a good sign. I second the question, where are you located? We can try to offer assistance via the internet and with pictures and manuals... But in this case, it may be better and faster if someone can visit you and help in the diagnosis. I do see some disassembly work in your future, at the very least you should try and climb under it and give a general description of where the oil is and seems to be coming from. Hopefully you haven't broken anything severe. At least your wife shut it off quickly, right? That may be the difference between a new engine and just a new block or maybe even just a new turbo. Not being able to rotate the engine doesn't sound good though, coupled with the loss of oil is a troubling thing. Normally I would think it was just a timing belt failure (so broken rockers too, but they are designed to fail like this with no other damage) but the loss of oil is bothering me. |

I am in Indy. I have not been able to crawl under it yet. Just in case, where is a good place to get a re-manufactured engine if it comes to that? I am going to climb under it this weekend to see if I can tell anything. I miss my CRD!!! |

How much oil was on the wrecker? Are you sure it was yours? How many miles are on it, and how many miles are on the timing belt? |

The oil pool was about the size of a 5 gallon bucket and about 1/4 inch deep and yes it was from my CRD. It has 130k on it and no it has not had the timing belt changed. My wife said it was making a flutter when she started driving it that day. |

Ok... That sounds about like a half a quart or so of a puddle. Not too bad, it isn't the gallon plus of a full load of oil. However, if that was the last half-quart b/c the rest all bled off on the side of the road while waiting on the wrecker, that is less good. We are all eagerly awaiting any word you can give of what you have discovered. We can certainly help more when we know more clues. |
