I have a '05 CRD that is need of timing belt service. I am located in the Chicago area and would like information regarding shops or people who could perform this service for me locally. I am willing & able to help but uneasy about doing the service myself.

If you have trouble finding a diesel mechanic. I would look at Mechanics that specialize in German cars like Audi and Volkswagen. they have experience with small diesels. They have belt timing tools like the pulley holder some recommend. I changed mine in Dec with local mechanic
friend with VW/audi experience using rented pins from Sasquatch motorsports. This spring I helped a friend change his with the Chinese E-bay kit. Preferred the higher quality cam pins I rented. I also decided to use info from site and made a set of Cam pins from bolts that I tested during friends job.

Location: Somewhere between Heaven and Hell... But it is really hot here on Earth...
Depending if you are up for the travel and labor costs, I would be happy to fly through O'Hare on the way back from the West Coast. It actually might not be too bad, it is all about the airlines.

We could even do it right at the airport if you wanted, and save on the cost of another rental car too. The timing belt job with water pump is book labor of 6 hours, but I do it in 3 by not tearing down the entire front of the vehicle.

Shoot me a PM if you are interested, and we can talk more. The timeframe would be the first 2 weeks of June at the moment, pending the 3 week lead time in buying the cheapest plane tickets.

Well Bugnout (Scott) and I did a timing belt, water pump and thermostat on my Liberty CRD this past Saturday. I want to thank Scott for all his help and offering his time to help me get the work completed. Everything went well and the liberty is still in service.

I would like to note that when we opened it up at 95K+ miles the timing belt and all the associated parts were still in excellent condition and probably could have gone another 20 - 30K miles with no issues. I believe that had a lot to do with how the liberty was used. However, at this point with all the labor involved why would you close her back up. Everything was changed and done for hopefully another 100K.
