I'm interested to learn if any of you folks have replaced the wheel/hub bearings on your KJ CRD's?

My car has 147K on it and the front end is starting to sound a tad noisy and not to mention it's 10 y/o too.

Thanks everyone.

Tom

Did the right front about a year ago just before 100k miles. Used a timken part from rock auto. About $150 if I recall.

minisub,

Was the noise very loud or subtle? Trying to decide on how to diagnose the problem. There is no lateral movement when I have the tires off the ground. I replaced both on my dads Buick Park Avenue and the bad one was very dry and noisy but had zero side play.

Thanks for your post.

Tom

I replaced both of mine at 120k only because I was in there for a cv axle and figured they were coming due soon. I didn't really notice a noise, until I put the new timkens in. At all speeds the road noise was way quieter.
I've had hubs go and can def tell when they do. I'm not sure how much I had left in the factory hubs but from the noise reduction I got with the new ones I'd guess they were close to failure

Also, once removed. The old hubs did turn by hand harder than the new timkens

Did mine at 110K. Noise sounded like snow tires (aggressive thread) hum. No play at all but noise gone when the hubs were replaced with Timkins. Not a difficult job.

Timkens... I know the bearing company. But what company is using them is their hub assembly?

I don't believe Timken actually produces automotive bearings anymore, they contracted various bearing makers that make the bearings to some standards Timken agrees with and slap Timken brand on the box.
