Another gasoline in diesel fuel tank blunder. My 18 year old son who knows better dumped about 10 gallons of gas into my 05 CRD, ran it for about 10 miles, turned it off and could not get it started later(thankfully). I towed the vehicle home, worked on it for 2 days: dropped the tank, completely cleaned it, purged the supply and return lines, changed the filter, purged the rail, injector lines and cranked it till the return lines were bleeding diesel. I put a little oil in the intake to confirm that the engine was not damaged and it cranked and fired, relief!, no apparent mechanical damage. I read at least 20 old threads regarding this subject but found that all other events resulted in starting after the purging process. Is there any possibility that there is a reboot or some other electronic issue that I have overlooked? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a lift pump? If not, you probably have air in your system that needs purging. A cheap lift pump will save cranking and your CP3 pump will thank you.

I would also add about 16 oz of low ash 2 stroke oil in to your fuel tank. This will improve fuel lubricity of any residual gasoline you have in your system and your CP3 will also thank you.

With all of the cranking you have done, have you recharged your battery? the CRD CPU is very sensitive to voltage when cranking.

Guys, thanks for your responses. My 05 did not come with an in tank lift pump; only 2 wires at the connection for the float potentiometer. I am absolutely certain that I completely bled all of the air out of the system, cracked all connections till air was bled and got a solid stream of clean fuel. I'm getting clean fuel out of the relief fittings when I crank the engine so i know that fuel it making it to the injectors. I have an optima battery that is new and has a good charge, I also charged between crankings and overnight.

Do you think it could be one of the following issues:
Electronic Module
Damaged fuel pump due to ethanol sitting in the pump causing swollen or soft o rings or components.

I have a few old diesel trucks all with manual injectors and have always been able to bleed the systems and get them started without any issues; electronic components can be more difficult to troubleshoot.

I would double check to make sure no air is trapped in the fuel rail.
Then...

Check the ASD relay and fuse.
Check the dashboard lights. If you see a solid red dot that never turns off, there is a problem with the SKIM module.
Check that the fuel pressure regulator is properly connected.
Check that the camshaft position sensor is properly connected.
Check that all four injectors are properly connected.
Check for leaks at the fuel injector supply lines.

Well look in the bright side, my 18 yo son won't go anywhere near a gas station when he's driving one of my vehicles unless he absolutely has to and even them he'll only put in enough to get him home .

Did you mix up the plugs for the #4 injector and the fuel rail sensor? They will go in the wrong places and lead to a no-start.

first check fuel rail pressure , also check fuel return when cranking possibly loosing rail pressure so injectors can't open to fire.
