I know some of them have a flex section, but what I was referring to about "fixed in position" is that the turbo is hard-mounted to the exhaust manifold, which is hard-mounted to the block via the head. All the parts between the turbo and the oil drain inlet on the side of the block should be non-flexible, so despite any flex section in that tube, it shouldn't ever need to flex while in service. The chances of a leak developing on that tube are minimal.

The leak is 98% sourced from the intake tube that rots through.

For years I thought I had a small leak from my rear main seal.
Not enough of a leak to bother with dropping the trans and fixing it.

About five months ago I had my engine apart replacing the cylinder head.
While I had everything apart, I installed a new seal where the turbo oil drain pipe fit into the block.
Ever since then, that tiny drip from the rear main seal area has stopped.
Was it a miracle? No.
That whole time it was the turbo oil drain pipe leaking. Not the rear main seal.

I cheated as well and replaced mine at 164k with the new turbo. Those two little bolts suck almost as bad as the intake bolt by glow plug #3!

Has anyone modded this tube?

I'm wondering if I can just cut the lower half off and connect the two halves with a piece of silicone hose, since it is a low pressure gravity feed line. The silicone shouldn't be affected by the heat or oil.

This way I don't have to break my balls changing that rubber grommet (which will most likely fail constantly) on the block side, and when its time for a new one I can just bend it back at the splice, replace the seal, and shove it back into the block.

I may try it since mine is leaking pretty good, and post my results.

I like this idea, should be fine - this is a common leak point and annoying.

When I installed the new Sasquatch turbo, I made 2 mods after fighting it for a couple of hours. Took the turbo back off and put studs in for the drain-tube instead of bolts. SO much easier to find a stud with a nut in a socket, than to find a tiny hole with a wobbly bolt that always wants to either go in crooked or somewhere else entirely.

Second Mod was to put a heat barrier tube around the full length of the pressured oil supply tube.

That makes too much sense. :jester:
If I have to pull it all apart, I will do that.

Was going to pull it apart this weekend, but wanted to be sure I wasn't fixing something that didn't need it. Cleaned up engine, drove it. Oil looked like it was coming from exhaust/valve cover. Torqued bolts. Cleaned. Ran again. Oil coming from top of cover.

Turns out my oil problem was a missing o-ring on the rear of the CCV. Grabbed an o-ring from Autozone (variety pack), leak fixed.

Will put the flexible hose mod in my back pocket for now.

I had an oil leak that seemed to be coming from the return line at bottom of turbo. Seems the bolts were kinda loose so I just tightened them down. Leak fixed with about 1,000 miles on the clock!
