How much oil in the coolant??? Oil in the coolant most likely is a sign of an oil cooler leak as the oil pressure is much higher than the coolant system pressure....

I have oil in my prestone reservoir, can it be something else than the head gasket? Can I ride with it like that? Will it damage something if I just remove the oil once in a while until I have time to change it? |

If oil is getting into your coolant, its highly likely that coolant is getting into your oil. Neither of which are good for your engine. It could be the head gasket. Or it could be the oil cooler. |

Prestone doesn't make a compatible antifreeze/coolant for our Engine as they don't meet our HOAT specifications, so there's that... Any oil in the coolant reservoir is bad news, fix it now before it gets much more expensive. |

Hexus is right on the type of coolant. A hint is the correct HOAT color I've seen is a very pale pink. I'd have to very slightly disagree on oil in the coolant but only to the extent of asking how much. Oil floating on the top or more is in fact a very bad sign. However, a very slight amount of oil residue (i.e. only enough to make the coolant reservoir look blackish/dirty) is not necessarily bad. It does however merit removal and cleaning of the tank followed by monitoring. If you want to remove and clean it's not that hard just remember to disconnect the low coolant level sensor on the bottom before pulling the tank out and that the tank mounts on a slide on flange on the bottom so once the 2 firewall screws are removed you have to slide the tank forward before lifting it up. |

I probably removed 250 ml of oil in the reservoir and their probably still some. Were is located the oil cooler and is it a big job to change it or change the seal/oring? |

The oil cooler is on the passenger side of the block. Almost right behind the power steering pump. Its a pain to get to. |

Finally repair the jeep, the oil cooler was really corroded on the prestone side where it conmect to the engine, even the gasket was gone. Flushing the system right now, but am scared of driving with it cuz am not sure if the system is full. I read somewhere on this site that I have to bleed the air or something like that but it didn't say how. Can I just fill up the system and drive like that and check for fluid level once and a while? And how do I had pictures? |

Button things backup including closing the radiator drain valve low on the back passenger side of the radiator; if you have not already done so open the vent valve on the top passenger side of the radiator (turn it counter clockwise so the white line on the flange points to 4 o'clock and then pull straight up - might need pliers to gently wiggle while pulling up); pour about 6qts of straight HOAT antifreeze into the coolant tank on the firewall; add demineralized water to the coolant tank until coolant begins to come out of the radiator vent valve; wait a few minutes then "burp" the upper radiator hose; add more water as needed to fill the radiator up to the vent valve; replace vent valve (reverse removal process); top up coolant take with water to about 1" above mid-line; replace coolant tank cap. Drive normally and after a few drive cycles recheck fluid level in coolant tank. Should have dropped to about the coolant tank mid-line as air vented from the cooling system (same as any other vehicle since ca. 1970 when coolant overflow/recovery tanks became routine). You may have to add just a bit of coolant to bring the level up to the mid-line. |
