I've got a 2006 CRD that has a blown head gasket:
- Coolant leakage from upper back of engine
- Exhaust gas in coolant bottle resulting in pressurization and residue
- Dealer snaked a camera into the cylinders, one has a lot of carbon from burning coolant

It has been sitting for the last year and a half, but I'm ready to make it live again.

- I know I need to extract all the old diesel and replace it with new before it hits the filter
- I know I need to replace the gasket, and am attempting to identify the correct part with which to do so.

The instructions here state "The gasket size is stamped into a tab that is on the intake side of the engine between cylinders 2 and 3. Look for a tab that has a part number stamping on it. On the rear-ward end of the tab may be some circular holes. The tab can have no holes, 1 hole or two holes. The sizes are as follows:

No Holes - 1.32mm Thickness
1 Hole - 1.42 mm Thickness
2 Holes - 1.52 mm Thickness"

I'm having a heck of a time just finding this. Photos/suggestions?
Better choices for obtaining the correct kit?

From there, best practices, things to look out for, caveats?
Thanks in advance.

Its hard to see, but its there.
Big broad tab, between cyl 2 and 3, drivers side of engine.
If you cant see it now, it will be easier to see when you get the intake manifold off.

Some of the head bolts will be tighter tan others. Be careful not to round off the head of the bolts. Use an impact socket. Chrome sockets tend to break.

Yep, use an impact socket. Or you will break the socket and round off one or two head bolts.

USE ARP HEAD STUDS!!!!

Im also a big fan of copper kote for both sides of the gasket to help with imperfections on both surfaces
