Top end rebuilt, new head gasket, ARP studs, new rockers, rebuilt injectors, new turbo, new glow plugs, egr delete,Weeks elbow, new timing belt, new tensioner pulley wheel, new water pump, new fuel filter and filter head. It runs WAYYYYY better. Doesn't smoke at all. Starting issues are all gone. BUT Here's a question, and i know the answer already, but what RPM should I be seeing at 65 MPH, at 70? Also the button on the left side of the stick doesn't seem to do anything. Related issue? Hate to find out that my overdrive is shot on the tranny. Also the cruise cont seems inoperative. Light comes on but seems like the "set" button is broken. That issue is pretty minor. |

At 65 MPH the engine should be at about 1900 rpm. The button on the shifter turs OD on and off. When off, there will be a indicator lit on the instrument cluster. |

Yes, and when I bought the Jeep it was shifting correctly, though I didn't press the OD button then. After top end work, now I think I've lost 3rd and 4th. Very odd since I didn't touch the tranny. The issues may all be related, possibly a connector though I have no idea. I KNOW it worked before it sat for a few weeks so it must be something I did, something simple. Issues: Cruise will not "set" , Not shifting out of 2nd I think, OD button has no effect/light doesn't illuminate. |

It sure sounds like a transmission problem and it seems to be in limp mode. If you scan with a regular code scanner you will probably get a P0700 which is a general transmission fault. More specific codes require a special kind of scan tool. Common problems are: Solenoid pack Input and output speed sensors. Hopefully it's just a loose connector somewhere. |

Is there a way, sans scan tool, to reset the tranny fault codes and get it out of limp mode? |

OK, an obvious starting point would be to check for a loss of power to the solenoid pack. This can be commanded by the TCM, aka limp mode, but also failure of the transmission control relay or fuse in the power distribution center. |

I have a similar problem. p0700 sets in the ECM but the specific code sets in the PCM. First and second and reverse are the only gears available. No variation with OD on or off. My fault code in the TCM is for a solenoid fault or the temperature sensor intermittent fault. When it throws the solenoid fault code, I go into limp mode. With the temperature sensor code, no limp mode. My scan tool is an Autel US 703. John |
