Hi,
today i noticed a oil leak between engine oil pan and transmisson pan. there are three bolts on the joint between them and it seems like it leaks from there.
i checked both engine oil and transmission oil and they both looks as they should.
where does thins leaking coming from. any ideas?

ps: my kj is 04 crd export model
i have changed engine oil about 1500km before. i used mobil1 0w-40 (it was recomended in the mobil1's catolog) and changed the transfer case fluid about 500km before. i haven't changed transmission fluid yet since i bought the car 3 months ago and the transmission fluid level and color seems good.

i have never noticed any leaking before and i dont go offroad (no place near istanbul:/)
by the way they checked the car at the jeep service 3 weeks ago (while installing rear hatch about the recall) and they told me there is little leaking at the both ends (at tire connection joint) of the steering rack but i shouldnt be worry about that anytime soon. and everything else was looking good.

thanks

I've never torn a CRD down that far but conventional knowledge would say the only joint likely to be leaking through there would be the rear main seal.

Although it could be the rear main seal, the turbo oil drain pipe is the most common cause for oil leaks in that area.

what do you think about the leaking is related to fuel filter? is it possible?

@flash7210 noob question but how can i check turbo oil drain pipe, where is that?

thanks

I agree with steevo, that looks like the rear main, depending on the mileage, it may be the issue. But, unless you overfilled with oil or running ehm that got clogged (didn't see ehm in your pics), rear main seal may be OK and what flash said is very likely to be the issue. You need to follow the big hose that exits from the air filter and that connects to the turbo (and this is how to determine where your turbo is located). You'll need to remove the air box to see more, maybe just removing the intercooler hose would be enough provided you have a flashlight, there are 2 metal pipes that connect to the turbo, one that supplies oil, one that gets the oil back in the oil pan, you should look on where they connect and if you have any oil leaks there. So look on the turbo and where the drain pipe connects to the block.

update:
today i went to jeep service. they checked the leak and told me my turbo hoses are fine and the leaking is from the rear main seal.
they asked 90$ for the part and 347$ for the labor cost
it is the 7th day of the leak and my oil level is still near max. so i cleaned all the oil under the car and i will wait some more time to see how does the oil level will change.

You could put some UV dye in the oil and look with a blacklight. Looking at your picture, there is a lot of oil forward of the transmission mount (all over the oil pan and starter). I would want to make sure the leak is not from somewhere else and is just collecting and dripping from that spot.
