Post subject:  New oil sensor location?
So I was reading about the member that had a leak from the front of the engine, next to the power steering pump and accessible with out removing the timing covers. I'm currently reassembling yet another engine, and I happened to notice the plug that this member said he found where the oil leak was coming from. This plug has blue thread locker on it in the attached picture.

Looking at the side of the engine just behind it, that appears to be a giant freeze plug or threaded plug sitting in the same gallery as this blue threaded plug. What I'm wondering, and would like thoughts from the group, is what do you think about using this location for the oil pressure/sensor? To me, it seems like this is on the front end of the main gallery, and should be receiving full oil pressure all the time as long as the cylinders are. I would love to find a location where a centrifuge could easily be plumbed into the system, and maybe this could also be used for that.

So, thoughts?

I'm especially interested in this because I think the port I'm using for oil pressure is where GMCTD successfully routed his Provent drain to, and I plan to do the same. It would also get the sender unit, and wires away from the exhaust bits.

I don't really have any useful info regarding what gallery that taps into :goink:

Too bad we don't have a marine version of this engine to look at, as I bet they use some of these ports for gauges, and then there's the other tensioner place that I used...

fixed the image. According to the oil routing:

This port may be immediately after the oil pump and before the filter, so effectively in the same location in the flow (in relation to the cylinder bearings) as the factory sensor. I don't know if this is a beneficial location then, compared to the actual delivery location of the main gallery that also feeds the turbo.

On mine, that plug was loose, but not out. I could turn it with my fingers. Based on the amount of oil it leaked, it is in a pressurized galley within the motor. Just a loose plug wouldn't leave the amount of oil I had leaking unless it was under pressure. If you pull it, oil will run out.

The diagram puts it on the intake side of the oil cooler and in a pressurized section.

Your idea should work for the oil sender, but you may get interference from the power steering pump pulley. I think it would be a tight fit if the sender is tall.

Maybe run a stainless braided line up out of the way if it's too tight of a spot? If it's a worthy location that is. Sure would be a LOT easier than the port near the crank sensor.

What error? Not that it helps much b/c it is linked to my own DB account, but that link works perfectly for me. Do you have a script blocker running by chance?

Apparently there was some sort of mechanics "training" book put out back in like 05 and a member, whose name escapes me, got hands on a copy and provided me this page back when geordi and I were looking for a suitable location for an oil pressure sending unit. We were wondering about plugs in the oil gallery that feeds the turbo, confirmed it with this pdf, and used the back plug by the bell housing.
