Post subject:  Chipmunks chewed my wires!!
I guess there is a reason for the engine cover. Wife is out of town and the Jeep hasn't moved much for a couple of weeks. darn chipmunks!! Anyway #2 Injector wiring is all chewed up and whatever the connector is just below the dipstick handle. It's pretty close to the connector so I would prefer to buy a new ends and splice the wiring in. I searched here and googled but no luck for part numbers. Anyone else had this issue?

I know the previous owner on mine had something chew up his injector wires.

I bought mine used, previous life was somewhere near Maryland. One of the first things I noticed when I took off the engine cover was there were broken nut shells all over the top of the engine and around the battery. Fast forward a year and the car refused to start...numerous error messages, all involving ASD, FCV and other sensor short problems. Finally took it in and they found several power wires that had been crudely spliced and were causing problems. They thought it was a body shop repair from a fender bender, but I've always wondered whether it was little, hairy rodents repairs since there was nothing on Carfax.

May or may not have the parts you need listed.
You can also download the 2005 Service manual there which includes wiring diagrams in case you have further problems.

I have had a mouse make its home inside my air-filter box with shredded newspaper but fortunately he did not chew any wires. :shock:

I saw on one of the Jeep forums...maybe this one....that Chrysler Jeep decided to use a peanut extract for the wiring insulation instead of an oil derived plastic so as to be Eco Sensitive....all the rodents around the world must really enjoy their little snack if this is indeed true! :)

I has something nest on top of my engine a couple of weeks ago. He completely destroyed the fuel return line between #1 & #2 and chewed a circle about 5" in diameter out of the hood insulation to use as bedding. It doesn't take them long to set up home.

Didn't realise there was anything wrong until I started to smell the diesel dripping from the engine.

I once heard a story that DC was using peanut oil to lubricate the wiring harnesses during assembly. you'd think it would have washed off by now.

Wonder if a bag of blood meal or something similar hung under the hood might keep them out. Blood Meal can be found in the garden section to keep rabbits out of your garden.

Not sure about using it raw as a lube because it would go rancid but it may well be an ingredient used to make some parts.

Great news, Mopar sells a new complete engine harness for around $400. I'm hoping I don't have to go that far.

OK, best my google-fu can deduce is that the LLY Duramax uses the same connector on the Bosch Injector. Amazon has them for $30-ish. I ordered one and will update once the repair has been made.

OK this is the part number you need to replace the injector electrical: ACDelco PT2183
I spoke with ID Parts and they are going to add them to their inventory.

Comes with about 16" of a pigtail and 2 butt crimp connectors. I would suggest a "Bell Telephone" style solder joint and some shrink tube with a split loom wrap. Strangely my 7.3 Ford sits way more than the Libby. It has a small fuel pump leak and maybe the smell of diesel keeps the rodents away?

I had problems with packrats chewing up O2 sensor wiring on my Veracruz a couple years ago. Mechanic buddy suggested rubbing wiring harnesses and undersides of covers with Irish Spring soap. Mice hate that stuff. Might be something to try.

Then get a cat or dog that will earn it's living lol

If your vehicles are going to be parked for a while, make sure the grass under the vehicle is mowed very short. Go to a Lowes or Home Depot and get a big box of CRITTER RIDDER

spread the entire container UNDERNEATH the engine bay of your parked vehicles. It also doesn't hurt to buy a bulk bag of chili powder, black pepper or cayenne (look in the local south asian markets, they often sell 1 - 5 lb bags ) spread that around too.

rodents hate that stuff.

I deal with field mice up here in the mountains of BC Canada a LOT. They LOVE TO CHEW the insulation on the wires. Its salty apparently. Doesn't hurt to put a broken up salt lick AWAY from your camp and to cover the ground under the rig with pepper powder or a mix of Critter Ridder and hot ground pepper.
