What's wrong with the KJs always locked hubs?
I think it's great. Just like a humvee.
Yes, it's a little bit more wear and tear on the front driveshaft joints and bearings but you never have to stop and think about locking your hubs.
What the CRD really needs is more front suspension travel. Not locking hubs.
A redesigned front axle and cradle with longer control arms and CV axles.
I just like simple mostly. Less moving parts, and I like to try and get as many MPG's as possible. All that front drive train moving, and needing fluid change x2, and crap front drive line boot going bad every 50k...
I drove for over a year with the whole front diff, driveshaft, and CV axles pulled in my KJ and you know how much gas mileage that added up to? Not even enough to accurately measure(less the 1/2%).
The setup the KJ has and every newer IFS setup is vastly stronger then selectable hubs and with these newer systems the mpg loss is not even noticeable.Plus you have the ability to shift into 4wd at any time and not have to stop and get out to lock the hubs in.
Sure I run selectable hubs on my SFA conversion but that was from a engineering standpoint that they are my "weak link" so they are easy to change on the trail and pretty cheap(have lifetime warranty).Plus my front axle u-joints are built for brute strength not daily driving longevity(no needle bearings in u-joints).
