After 18,000 miles of trouble free service. My CRD has decided to be a p.i.t.a :(

Starting on Friday, I was trying to leave a stop light and the engine wouldnt rev up and go beyond 20 mph. After moving to a parking lot with the engine running very rough, I shut it off. After calling my local stealership (on speed dial now) I decided to try and restart it and it ran fine....... fast forward to this morning. I was going to treat the wife to a 2nd wedding aniversery trip to Waffle House, the same symptoms came back (minus the rough idle).
When I fired it up to drop it off at the dealership, it ran fine...... any ideas????

Had same problem, as I pulled into traffic, scary. After coasting into a parking lot, called roadside assistance, and had it towed. The dealer replaced the torque converter, and other tranny related things, performed a bunch of flashes. Ran fine, for a week, then CEL. Unrelated and turned out to be EGR crap.

Good luck,

Greg

Sounds somewhat like a EGR Flow Control Valve (aka anti run valve) sticking in a almost closed position and starving engine of air.

I am waiting on the parts to replace the EGR valve, so that would make sense. Interesting thing is that, I have a June of 05' build date.............

That would make sense also, if the TC locks up when the truck is not moving, then it would chug the engine and not provided any power, right?

when your crd thinks it's hurt badly it will go into "limp" mode to reduce further damage. You restart and it isn't seeing problems so it's fine, then sees the problems again and returns to limp mode.
