I'm from Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa. I've just replaced the timing belt and water pump on my 2005 Jeep Liberty (Cherokee in SA) KJ CRD 2.8 (manual transmission) at 200k Km. I must admit that it was a BIG challenge (first time) and took me a week of sweat and tears. Without everybody's input on this forum and other Jeep forums I would not have attempted it. I took my time and over a period of months obtained most of the articles and videos on the subject and studied it in conjunction with the FSM. A big thank you to Andre (Jeep Fundi) of Auto Technic, Silverton, Gauteng. I phoned him several times during the week and he went the extra mile to assist me over the phone.

Some sources indicate a timing belt change every 160k km, but I would not recommend this. Even though the old timing belt was in reasonable condition, I doubt it would last another 60K km and the tensioner was shot.

I love the CRD and will not part with it ever.......

160,000km = 99,419US miles or essentially 100,000 miles which is the factory recommended changed interval. However, there appears to be a general consensus that this should be amended to read "every 100,000miles/160,000km or every 6 years whichever occurs first". Time is just as hard if not harder than miles on the rubber band keeping the cams and the crank in time.
