Has anyone ever looked into a variable speed fan for the CRD Liberty? |

Are you talking about an electric fan? The CRD has a two speed electric fan in front in the radiator. Most factory electric fans are two speed. Most aftermarket electric fans are single speed. |

I'm talking a variable speed fan driven by the engine. It has a viscious clutch that is capable of varying the speed of the fan based on your air temp at the the intake manifold or the thermostat outlet. Look up Horton fans. Using such a thing reduces fuel consumption and increases hp. |

Doesnt look like they make one for a jeep. Just heavy duty trucks. I dont see how it offers any advantage. A traditional thermal fan clutch may only have on and off speeds, but as long as it spends more time off than on you will have better MPG. If you dont ever tow anything you can try running without the engine driven fan and use only the electric fan. I've been doing that for a couple years now and have not had any problems. |

The ones they make for a truck though are controlled by an air clutch which is basically on or off where the viscious clutch has a full range of variable speed I believe down to 50 rpm. They may not have something specifically for the Liberty but there might be something that can be applied to it as they make fans of all sizes. Someone would need to find a fan curve of the stock fan though if a new fan was going to be needed. What kind of mileage have you seen after taking the stock fan off? |
