You may recall several years ago that I lost my brakes when a flexible brake hose split. It turned out 3 of 4 brake hose lines needed replacing and others here noticed the same issue upon inspection. Well, I lost my brakes again this past week and it wasn't the flexible brake hose to the caliper that failed again. Instead, the metal line to to the ax side front caliper developed a leak. It turns out that the CAC hose was rubbing against the brake line at a spot adjacent/under the front of the battery holder tray. The friction of the line rubbing against the CAC hose wore a flat spot that caused the line to fail. Next time ya'll are under the hood you may want to check for wear and put a piece of split fuel tubing on the line to prevent frictionn and potential failure. This is the first time in owning over 30 vehicles over the past 25 years that I have had this type of failure. I have never had brakes fail on me before and Libby has now done it to me twice ;-( |

Had a hard line get rubbed through on my HMMWV in Afghanistan by a splash shield, not really a design flaw but trying to keep up with others doing 40mph+ on terrain that any sain person would be going only 5-10mph. Talk about not fun with a 12,000lbs vehicle with no brakes and 1000'+ drop offs and multiple tight turn switchbacks. |
