I've only had my CRD for a couple of days, and it's my first diesel. When I turn the key on the dash lights up with almost a dozen different indicator lights. The one that doesn't come on is the little curly-cue glow plug light. Does that light only come on when the glow plug is needed? Is something wrong? Can't find anything in the manual except where the glow plug light should be on the dash. I've been in temps down to the mid 30s and still no light???

Yepper, The glow plug light will only come on when it is required. And that sucker is fast.

I dont think thats normal. Even if its warm (70s) and I start mine in the morning I can see the glow plug indicator light for a split second.

I park in a heated garage. Sometimes it turns on for a split second, sometimes not at all. If you park it outside overnight in coolish weather it should turn on, however even at -40, it should only come on for a maximum of 2 seconds. Gotta like those Bosch rapid glows...

I've only had mine a week, and I haven't seen it yet, of course I do live in Texas.

The CRD glow plug light will come on for more than 2 seconds, Jeeps advertising notwithstanding. I parked my CRD outside in another state where it was 5 degrees F one night - when I went to start it, the temp was 10F. The glow plug light stayed on for 5 seconds! Started right up, sounded like a Cummins for about 30 seconds, then quieted right down. In summertime temps, I never see the light even come on. I believe the glow plugs reach maximum heat in 2 seconds, according to Bosch, but they will stay on longer if needed.

Ranger1 - Does it wait 5 seconds all the time when it's cold, or did it happen just the once? Having a remote starter that only waits 2 seconds could be a problem...

The gp light duration is entirely temperature dependent - if it dips into the low teens, it stays on for several seconds every time. Once the weather hits the 40's it blips on a second and then goes off. Above 50 I rarely ever see it other than an occasional blip. Hot summertime it never shows up at all. Not to worry - according to the FSM, the gp's stay on longer than the light, whenever the PCM thinks it needs them to keep the burn temperature up. They have a chart showing how they can stay on up to several minutes after the gp light goes off.
