As the title suggest, I have an oil leak coming from the drain plug. It's completely stripped. The mechanic ship I'm at is telling me I need to replace the oil pan. I wanted to verify on here that that's the only option for getting this oil leak to stop.

Thank you!

That would be one option or you should be able to Healy coil it or you may be able to drill it out a little larger and tap it for a larger drain plug :2cents:

A Fumoto drain valve would be an option too.

Mine was stripped and leaking a little. I bought a fumoto valve and jb welded it in. It has been 3 years and 60k miles without a problem

Thank you all so much! The jeep has about 150,000 miles on it, and is running great, but after getting things like the rear main seal replaced, filters, belts, and so on, I'm not to happy about being told to drop x amount more.

You all on this forum site are awesome!

Any real mechanic worth a toot would know how to fix a stripped oil drain plug! Simply tap it out in a bigger size thread and install a bigger drain plug. Heli-coils are also an option if you can find one in the correct thread size.

Mine was stripped when I bought the Jeep. It already had an oversize plug in it that was stripped so my options were few. To fix it, I tapped the pan out using a 1/2 tapered pipe thread tap and installed a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer/adaptor pipe bushing using red locktite permanently into the pan and then used a smaller 3/8 pipe plug in the adaptor for the removable drain plug. I now use the tapered 3/8 pipe plug only when draining the oil. No leaks at all and a permanent fix... All parts available at any local hardware store like ACE.... :D
