Not to go off topic of a CRD thread, but i have a 2005 KJ and wanna add a little sound to it. Does anyone know the size of the muffler openings on both sides so i can buy the same size and just clamp it on?

Thank you gents

If you have a crd, I think cutting the resonator and replacing it with a 2.5in straight pipe will add a little growl to it, but nothing crazy. I've done it and I like it.

I bought a 3in stainless muffler (WALKER Dynomax 17233) from rockauto and only had to take some 3in pipe pieces to sleeve over the stock 2.5. They were not tight fitting so I seam welded the joints with my friends mig welder. Quiet enough even though it is basically a straight thru glasspack construction. Quiet enough wife never noticed a difference. Slight rumble at idle and quiet at cruise speeds.

So its a 2.5 inch pipe, so i can just buy a 2.5 inch muffler then I'm guessing right?

The cheapest is a 2.5in straight pipe. You'll need to bend it slightly to align it to front and rear, you'll need some pipe tools and clamps. Best would be to have this done at a muffler shop, shouldn't be more than 50-ish bucks

so taking out the resonator is alright?
If the wife can't tell, What is the point?
I'm a old Harley guy so I would love for my CRD to sound better!

There are several ways to accomplish what you want, remove muffler, or resonator or both, remove CAT, etc...
For best performance and a good mellow sound I chose to remove the CAT, muffler and resonator and replaced all of them with straight 2.5 inch aluminized pipe and a Flowmaster muffler. The choke point is the reducer on the CAT.
I got the Flowmaster 2.5 in/out muffler from Advance for a low price and got the local muffler shop to install. Came out less than $100 for the entire project....

What are you guys calling a resonator?
As far as I know, in the exhaust is a flex joint, a cat, and a muffler.

I removed everything after the cat.
I have a short pipe that dumps out the side in front of the passenger rear tire.
No muffler.
With the windows up, I dont even notice that there is no muffler.
With the window down, I can hear it pretty good but its not that loud.

Try some vance&hines or some screaming Eagles on it then. Lol. But a person that is not used to listen suspicious noises, won't realize the resonator was replaced. It just adds a bit of a growl on idling and when driving, and I mean a bit. Take it like a difference between a stock honda (crd with resonator) and a softer than normal stock Harley sound, both similar engines. An inexperienced one won't notice it.
