| Post subject: | Oil Leak at back of motor |
So, I fixed the oil leak at the front of the engine. However, that didn't do the trick and it still leaks at the back of the motor. We pulled the transmission and replaced the rear main seal and associated o-rings. It looked like the culprit. No love there, still leaks. Many angry words have been spoken as a result, but I still need to get this fixed. It looks like it is coming from behind the transmission adapter plate on the passenger side of the engine. What is back there? I saw a diagram of the oiling system, and it looks like the galley goes through to that location. Anyone have a motor torn down that can photograph the back of the block? I would really really like to know what I might find before I tear it down again. Thanks for the help. Jeremy |

Check the turbo oil return line for leaks. As well as remove and check the turbo intake hose going from air box to the turbo. The intake air hose carries oil dumped by CCV back to intake. If the hose is cracked then that oil drips to the passenger side engine block near transmission joint. I had the hose cracked and leaking oil. |

Neither are the issue. I checked both the first go around when I found the front plug that was leaking behind the front cover. The oil return is dry, and the boost hoses and intake hose all got replaced. We thoroughly cleaned the motor from the head down after we put the transmission back in. No oil from anywhere but the back by the adapter plate on the passenger side. I am thinking that there is a freeze plug back there that plugs the oil galley. Thanks for the ideas, though. Jeremy |

There is a threaded plug in the main oil gallery on the passenger side of the block. Somewhere in the vicinity of the crankshaft position sensor. You might have to remove a heat shield to see it. Its kinda underneath the exhaust manifold. A few folks here have identified that plug as a good place for a oil pressure gauge. |

Those photos are very helpful. That threaded plug is in the right location. I'll see if I can get a look at it tonight. Maybe with a mirror on a stick. Muchas Gracias. |
