I replaced my timing belt, pulleys, and water pump at 120K when I bought my 2005 CRD in Oct. 2013. I will be replacing a cracked head (found via pressure testing behind the #3 and #4 intake cylinders) and I now have about 145K on the Jeep. My timing belt with 25K on it looks to be in good condition. Is there any good reason not just to reuse it, other than in another 75K miles I will have to change it? Thanks for your input. |

I cannot answer your question but I know that on other vehicles that I have worked on with rubber timing belts it was always stated that the direction of rotation must be maintained when putting a belt back in place. ![]() |

New belt via Amazon is about $75 if it was mine I would go with a new belt given how far in you are. WP and idlers are fine for the extra miles a new belt will give you. If you did new TB tensioner then too it is OK if not do new tensioner with new belt |

X2. Throw a new belt on for cheap, and anything you didn't do on the first pass. One caution though. I just got into an engine that had the original tensioner on it at 150k miles, and the bearings were in terrible shape. It was just a matter of time before it seized... After that, I don't think I'd push a tensioner past 100k ![]() The idlers were pretty sloppy as well. |
