Post subject:  Annual Alternator replacement ( failed clutch )

Hi all,
I've searched through the forums and I didn't find anything on this, but we've had our 2006 CRD for about 5 years now ( love it ) and it's been very reliable, with one exception.
The clutch that's in the alternator pulley. The fact is, I end up replacing the alternator annually.
The first one came from a Jeep dealer. The second one came from Advance Auto parts and had a lifetime warranty. I've used that warranty to replace it three more times, the latest being earlier this week.
It's not costing me anything, now that I have a lifetime warranty, but it's kind of a PITA and I'd like to not have to make this a fall ritual.
Is anyone else seeing this problem, or perhaps have a suggestion as to what's causing this issue? The tensioner pulley seems to be fine and the tension on the belt seems fine as well.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

ID get a new clutch, this is from a previous post, which includes the updated litens clutch:

-68009879AB alternator decoupler pulley Litens updated (PN 920834available from Advanced Auto at $78) that is internally greased.

I hear that this won't fail as the old one does. But of course this is up to you being willing to shed some extra money.

My advance auto alternator failed miserably in less than 6 months, the clutch was good but I guess some diodes broke, as my lights were flickering. I traded it in for an Autozone one, hoping it will be have better... Still have it new in the box. Now I use the stock original alternator with a new Litens pulley (not the updated). Back in the day my alt decoupler went bad, advance auto only had the rebuilt w/o core trade in, luckily, since I ended up keeping a good alt and getting a new pulley.

I googled the part number (68009879ab) and came up with a transmission pump (no longer available).

The Advance Auto part number (920834) that you gave is correct for the Litens decoupler pulley.

Then sorry guys for disinformation, I haven't checked the mopar part. But I did get the Litens from advance auto. Probably useful for some, but quite expensive in my opinion...

Good info but couldn't use it bc I think you're limited to once or twice a year. But for whoever wants it, I think a Google would reveal the code. I use it as often as I can.

To get back to the original question , I too seem to go through alternators. I'm on my third one in 5 hrs under the lifetime warrantee. The clutches don't fail. The alternators just crap out.

You got the Autozone or advance auto one? My advance auto broke in less than a year, decoupler looked like new, I took it out before returning it. Now I'm on the original with new decoupler. Been using it since 2013.

See my original thread on the subject.

Yes, I bought it at Advanced Auto from the advice Litens gave me. It still works great with no red rust like the standard decoupler.
