I just found a used engine to replace my dead one with and was wanting to know if the water pumps are a problem area, I've seen a few timing belt kits that include a water pump. the engine I purchased is used and I do not know the history other than it ran great and has 144,000km's (90029 miles). I am going to do the usual timing belt and idlers, I've ordered the Weeks stage 1&2 kits. Anything else I should seriously consider before I get this engine back in? Thanks folks.

it's recommended that you replace water pump when doing timing belt.

Mine had enough noticeable play at 100k that I wouldn't even have considered leaving it in there.

With the engine out, you'd be CRAZY to not install ARP head studs, and most likely new rockers! It's possible that the rockers are ok, but highly unlikely at that mileage. If you don't, you'll hate yourself when you have to do it under the hood, and it could drop a valve and destroy your engine... :2cents:

You'd also be crazy to not replace the water pump, timing tensioner and pulleys. Did you see the jeep it came out of? If you could see if there was any coolant in the overflow, or any oil in the coolant, coolant in the oil ect, that would be nice, as it could have a bad head gasket, and it's sooo easy to fix now. Once it's under the hood, it's a complete sensored word to fix.

I would tip the engine if nothing else and try to get some fluid out, and see if it has any oil in it. I just got one with oil in the coolant, and it has a NEW head on it. Don't waste your time with the factory head bolts...
