| Post subject: | Fuel Filter Stuck |
New here with a 2005 CRD. Been going through the noob guide checklist and I cannot get my fuel filter off... I turned so hard the filter head started turning where the connectors are. Any Ideas for how to get this thing off? My guess its never been changed, 140k miles. Thanks |

Or when changed they did not lube the gaskets with a bit of diesel fuel. You might can get it off if you remove the filter head from the vehicle (unplug electric connectors; push don't pull the fuel lines off; undo 2 bolts/nuts holding assembly to mounting bracket; lift up enough to unplug WIF sensor connector) and chuck it into a bench vise. Unfortunately IIRC the bottom half of the head, where the electric plugs are, is plastic and only held in place by the thing the filter screws onto. If so you may not be able to keep that section from moving in which case it's likely to crack. If you have a 1st gen filter head (2 black plugs) and not the 2n gen filter head (1 black plug and 1 bright blue) you may want to consider just replacing the filter head and wiring pigtail (idparts has this). Costs a bit but does include a new fuel filter and WIF sensor. On the other hand if you are trying to undo the filter on the vehicle are you turning it the right way? It's upside down so to turn it counterclockwise when viewed correctly, from the bottom, you have to have to turn it clockwise when viewed from the top. |

Awesome, thank you. I removed the whole filter assembly, put it in a vice and had the wife apply back pressure on the plug area while I cranked down on the filter. It came off! I bled the new filter according to the noob guide and cleaned the MAP. The jeep is running great and fuel milage has increased about 4 MPG! The map really wasn't very bad and I had no problem with the crush washer. I guess I can hold off on the updated filter head for a while and keep checking the bleed valve for air for the time being. Thank you. |
