 Post subject: WTB fan bracket with failed bearing

I am working on deleting the mechanical fan and viscous heater from our 2006 CRD. Today I made a template for the viscous heater delete pulley plate. I used Mountainman's old viscous heater to make the template. Thanks Mountainman!

I also made a template for a plate to replace the fan bearing bracket. This was much more time consuming then the viscous heater delete plate. I made 4 templates before I was satisfied with the fit. The plate uses the same bolt holes as the fan bracket. I plan to bolt 2 Gates 38006 idler pulleys to the bracket to replace the fan pulley and the existing idler. Belt routing will be the same as factory The front engine lifting plate will also be removed as it will interfere with the top idler pulley.

I ran out of time and had to reassemble the CRD before I was complete because my wife needs it tomorrow. I want to purchase an old fan bracket that I can pull measurements from to machine the 2 spacers for the idlers and the spacer that I will tack to the back of the plate where it bolts the timing cover. (The hole that uses the extra long bolt) So, if you have an old fan bracket that you don't mind parting with, I want to purchase it from you. Thanks.

No problem! I hope you can track down one of those, they are really steep for a new one.
hmm, maybe I can help actually.

For all of you that have 100k+, or especially 150k+ miles on your mechanical fan bearings, you should check them for play, and or roughness ASAP. You don't want to find out how much fun it is to replace the radiator on the CRD :grim:
Oh, and instead of chucking the old one in the trash, mail it to the OP :JEEPIN:

I looked at the post of your 3.7L e-fan installation again. You stated that you trimmed:
5/16 inch (8mm) from the green line on the bottom
1/8 inch (3mm) from the red lines on the left and right
and remove the whole top part (blue line)


I'm not clear on exactly where you trimmed it. Did you trim to reduce the length and width? Or did you trim to reduce the thickness of the assembly?

One more question........You also posted:
Only thing left to do is extend the wires to reach the location of the fan plug on the chassis harness.
Where is this plug on the chassis harness? Is it the 3-wire plug with no mate behind the passenger side headlight? Or did you delete the pusher fan and use that plug?

I trimmed the thickness of the shroud. When you try to fit up the 3.7 fan you will see where it needs to be cut.

I reused the connector for the electric pusher fan. I plan on running larger trans cooler so I needed to remove the front electric fan.

Thanks for that information. If I use the 3.7L Liberty e-fan, then using the wiring for the pusher fan will be an option. If I use a Ford Thunderbird fan (if I can make it fit), I will need additional relays or a stand-alone controller. The T-bird fan draws over 50 amps on high speed.

I talked to Keith at GDE about re-programming the ECM to work with higher temperature thermostats. I mentioned to him that I have a HDS 203F thermostat on order. He said reprogramming the ECM for the 3.7L e-fan to work with the higher temperature thermostat is possible.
