Does new cams need to be broken in on these CRD's? what is the procedure?
does anyone know? Need info asap as we are reassembling the motor now. What other info should we have?

I would say just put it together with assembly lube and drive it. There is nothing that needs to "seal" like piston rings or "seat" like valves.

2016 Grand Cherokee Overland CRD.

Usually there is a burnishing, or whatever it's called process. Assembly lube, and run it at a specific idle for X minutes at X RPM's. I would just look up the break in process for any other diesel engine and use that.
There could be a special lube for it also, can't remember. But, it's worth the few minutes at idle to get them set up right.

If the engine has been rebuilt completely I'd follow the Owner's Manual new engine break in recommendations. If it's new cams and rockers/lifters use assembly lube, more is better than less; crank up; oil light should go out almost immediately; run at high idle say 1500 rpm for like 5 minutes to be sure everything is ok; then drive gently for like 25 minutes keeping rpms below 2000 as much as possible. Should do it.

There is no break in period for these cams, per the VM Specialist in England. I recommend Lubriplate White Graphite premium lube from NAPA, but any assembly lube will work just fine.

Also, you'll notice the spacing is a bit different for the replacement cams in the front of the intake.

I also strongly recommend an oil change after the first 1k miles, as the assembly lube will collect in the filter media and honestly, why take a chance?

Rub some on each cam Lobe generously, same with the rocker arms up top. It's going to take a little bit for the drip-drip oil feed system to get to that metal.

These are roller cams. No break in.
I assume you are also using new rockers, correct?
