I am thinking about getting the Edge insight-cts2 for my jeep to use for gauges. Just wondering if anyone else has used one with our jeeps? http://edgeproducts.com/products/insight-cts2-84130/ |

It doesnt specifically state that it will work with the Liberty CRD. Many folks have tried similar devices. Some work and some dont. All of them are not 100% reliable with the CRD. Buy a cheap android tablet with bluetooth. Buy a ELM327 OBD bluetooth adaptor. Buy the TorquePro OBD android app. All the above will do all the same stuff for under $100. It will be at least 60% reliable and the tablet can be used for more than just your Jeep. 60% reliable means that the adapter and tablet will connect and display live data from you ECM. Sometimes it will stay connected for 50 minutes, sometimes 5. All users of similar OBD display adapters have reported that it sometimes (rarely) causes the transmission to act strangely. |

Just to be clear, the blame lies with the bodged implementation ![]() I agree that the Android solution is by far providing the best bang for the buck. |

It depends. Not for codes full-time, but the new its has a kit to use not use the OBD port. Fused power and it uses specific sensors you would have to install. made for cars without OBD, but would work for us as gauges. I used the OBD port with my Excursion, it was great. It put the jeep In limp mode after about 20 minutes. |

Torque Pro seems to be more compatible though. The problem with the transmission is described thusly: You have many computers all talking on the bus at the same time... ECM, TCM, BCM, ABS, ESP (if equipped), FCM, radio, TPMS... Now you want to add something else. If that something else is not a *passive* participant in the conversation, at some point the transmission computer will just get frustrated and throw up its hands and yell "I can't take it any more!" and reboot. This would not ordinarily mean anything... But the overdrive function is electronically controlled and the default (startup) mode is OVERDRIVE OFF which is why when the transmission reboots, it kicks you HARD into 3rd gear and you smash your face into the steering wheel or you hear that loud BANG! sound. Neither is good for the transmission or your sanity. This computer structure cannot handle any more participants in the conversation. Use anything with caution. I would be more looking to manual gauges that do not involve the computer. Glow Shift Gauges are a good affordable option. |

The 3-in-1 diesel combo gauge is a great option, and comes with the sensors. You can choose which mode is the "sweep" gauge, the other two are digital numbers. There is a spot on the intake that wouldn't be too bad to drill and tap if you are inclined to locate a boost sensor there, but if you have the intake elbow kit, you might be able to get a welding shop to tig-weld a bung onto the top of that for you, then just mount the sensor in the bung. Temp and EGT are your other problems, and you get to figure out where you want to mount them too. The pipe off the back of the turbo isn't terribly hard to get at the top of, you could do the bung routine again there - common welding instead of tig. |
