Post subject:  Loose Thermostat Housing
I noticed during my Rocker Arm replacement that my 9 month old thermostat housing is loose where the upper radiator hose attaches. Loose as in I can wobble it back and forth with my hand when taking the hose off. It wasn't leaking before I torn into it (I haven't put the Jeep back together yet), but I don't remember the top of the thermostat being loose when I installed it. Is this normal?

I noticed the same thing with my factory thermostat housing.
It never leaked though.
If it leaks, replace it.
If not, keep using it.

Just another good reason to get the HDS 001... It will pay for itself and put money in your pocket if you keep the Jeep for the long haul! :2cents:

Looseness has been reported by a couple of members. When I took mine apart the top half wasn't going anywhere until I'd just about cut all the crimp away. There's an o-ring in there sealing the two halves of the housing so you can probably live with a small amount of movement but I'd keep an eye on it.

While I agree the HDS001 is a work of art I still don't see how it could ever pay for itself unless you expect the vehicle to last another 20 years.

I've heard of factory stats failing at 30-60k miles, so at that rate, you'd run a cold engine with poor fuel economy (and other consequences with that) and you'd burn through multiple factory units at $100-150 each? That's my thoughts on it anyhow. Diesel is so expensive these days, that I think the fuel savings would really push it over the top, and MUCH less hassle. Easy to service also, just like the good old days. :2cents:
