sorry it has so many names - mprop

it has 12v to one side and the other wire reads 115k ohms through ecu, and open circuit to earth when ecu loom disconnected so the wiring checks out.. i think

When I was checking my mprop, key-on engine-off:
One wire to the mprop had 12v.
The other wire to the mprop had ~3v.
Resistance through the solenoid was ~30 ohms.

How did you do resistance through the ECU?
155k ohms is essentially a open circuit.

For my mprop wiring I did continuity checks from the mprop connector to the ECU harness connector. Thats how I discovered I had a intermittent open circuit at the mprop connector.

it has started - with holding the accellerator pedal at WOT it will fire up after 3+ attempts. run and idle. one time it did not and died again....

volts are +12.46 and +3.52? steady

and sincerely thank you for your help guys, it would be in flames on wasteland without your help

ok today, I could not get it to start at all. pedal position made no change. I have been pondering and researching the bosch ECM. It seems that the Fuel rail sensor and MPROP are close loop linked to each other during start up.

what other sensors have input to the start quantity, set by the MPROP quantity valve?

I Guess:
Air intake Temp IAT - Spare fitted no change
Intake Pressure MAP - As above
Coolant Temp Sensor ECT.. cant see it to test

other factors that could cause my no start
Cam sensor
Crank sensor
Slow cranking speed/low volts when cranking?

Going back to basics.
The battery on the vehicle is a bosch 665cca unit. this turns the engine over at around 300-400rpm, when cranking over the ABS And other lights illuminate after extinguishing at key on. If the PCM gets too low a voltage (due to cranking) is it possible that it would shut down and not start the car? or indeed is the starter not working fast enough/or draining too much energy due to age, giving lower than expected pump rotations - therefore pressure.

I might try unplugging the coolant temp sensor to initiate cold start conditions which would call for more fuel at start duty see if that helps?

one of the issues on the battery is that you must turn on the computer - before the engine will start

while a starter motor will turn with 10 or 11 volts- just slowly

- to the computer 12.01 vs 12.00 is enough to not turn on.

you need the battery stress tested - i.e. when it's trying to turn what's the voltage

there are new conductance testers that can check this in about 30 sec's and most shops have them

OK ,because you don't have fault codes. it is possible that m,prop valve is sticking (internal mechanical fault) check electrical harness ecm to all sensors , fuses , grounds , cables etc. disconnect glow plug , spray some eater see if will run , and stay running. or look for spare (test) crank sensor , m.prop valve ,without pressure gauges and proper testing equipment , you must use trial and error and try used m,prop

ok so rail pressure sensor replaced no change.

tried for 2 hrs to pull the mprop but the bottom sensored word bolt is locked solid and now stripped.

looking at other items:
camshaft sensor checking wiring i have 3 terminals

1 0v ground
2 11.4v signal
3 12.45v from asd relay

why is there volts on pin 2? is it how the hall sensor works?

ok sensor signal volts for fuel rail, crank volts peak at around 1.0v

You check your ASD relay yet?

asd is giving out volts to all its outputs on schematics diagram p229.

It will always at key on then ignition - start go to run then stall. judging by the rail sensor i get peak starting pressure of 0.9-1.1v as it starts to fire and then it drops off to nothing 0.5v static, as if ecu has cut fueling pressure by means of.... why?

I think I'm also having mprop issues. a waterfield asked for the part number but I didn't see it, does anyone have the part number? I've looked on a few sites and can't find it. Thanks a lot.

I'm glad you have fixed the MPROP valve it was probably seizing up not allowing proper amount of fuel to the CP3 pump so good thing, without any special pressure gauges you narrowed it down.
