When I first got my Jeep CRD, I made a block off plate very similar to the one pictured and blocked off the ERG exhaust feed pipe. This did not cause any DTC to trip as the EGR valve and FCV was still functioning with no exhaust crap being dumped into the intake manifold.
By far the best solution is to completely remove the EGR valve and FCV and all associated plumbing, pipes, tubes, etc... (requires a re-flash with one of the tunes available on this forum to turn off DTC check engine light when you unplug the EGR & FCV items).
