glow plug cycle times

I saw a post last year that had the glow times per the coolant temps.

I was wondering if anyone has tested the times on theirs compared to this chart? mainly i just want to save myself the time of having to wire in the meter and check the times. I guess the best way would be to permantly have a volt meter in so i can see when the ECM drops the GP's as to know the best time to try to fire it.

I just installed the ODYSSEY battery and plan on moving the battery I had in it to the rear hatch area, and adding a Intake heater.

And just A FYI. The ODYSSEY battery out of the shipping box had almost .5V more (12.3 vs 12.

than the battery that was just driven the day before and it is only a little over a year old.

First line is coolant temp, glow plug indicator, pre glow, post glow.

-30C 10 SEC. 35 SEC. 200 SEC.
-10C 10 SEC. 23 SEC. 180 SEC.
+10C 1 SEC. 21 SEC. 160 SEC.
+30C 1 SEC. 20 SEC. 140 SEC.
+40C 1 SEC. 19 SEC. 70 SEC.
+70C 1 SEC. 16 SEC. 20 SEC.

the voltage output is

11,65v for two second and 2,3 for 10 second at +10C and at 0C

i thought the US versions are different?

no , the time is the same in stock programming , the only change in the various revision is the voltage management , the time can arrive at 19 second if you , for example unplug the water temp sensor and trick the temp reading at lowest value reading writen in the ECU

Yeti, I am putting together a CRD that is not running but will be soon, I hope....... it has a Segar ... Can i reprogram the ECu with your software even if the SEGR is inplace or do i need to uninstall it?

I think the SEGR kit do not interfer with my tune ,I simply stop the egr function that it's not called and open the fcv ........but this is operative at shut down and if you unplug it , you need to delete the DTC in the DTC table

That gave me an idea. I could put the water temp sensor on a switch. I could break the connection when its cooler to give my steel GP's a longer run time before i crank. I Will have to remember this. If it gives me any problems like it has been around 15deg. I will unplug the sensor and give it a try.

I'm hoping that i would only have to use it when its around 0F so i dont think it should matter all that much.

try to add Power Service diesel fuel supplement at max dose 16 OZ in the empty fuel thank or 8 OZ with fuel supplement and 8 OZ with Diesel Kleen for max cetane that decrease the fire point of the fuel , btw you can intercept the positive in the wiring of the sensor and instal a button , but you must remember that :
disconnect the sensor first you cycle the key in on and after some second of running you must shut off the engine and wait 30 second for shut off the ECU , then with the key off connect the sensor and crank again , but is not the best thing to do

I will try the diesel kleen tip. I very rarely run any additives.

It just aggravates me that my 98 tdi will start with no glow plugs at 15-20 degrees and this turd won't do it with the glow plugs at the same temps.

At most places i park, i really don't have much of an option. I could use the temp sensor as a emergency backup starting procedure. I don't always park at places where it can be plugged in.

FYI-I live in Alaska and run no additives in my fuel.

because I'm sure you have an additivated fuel , normal diesel fuel gelling near 1 celsius degree or well , paraffin start to separate from the fuel and clog the filter , here in the winter near the alps , the fuel come already additivated for preventing starting problem ,but only in the winter period from 15 December to 15 March

Ive never added anything for anti gel reasons. The only reason i have ever added is for cleaning, and when i think about it.

The jetta that i mentioned in the earlier post has 50k more miles on than my libby. And they both are fueled at the same place.

i would also like to add. The new larger battery has been helping. it hasn't been as cold as the morning last week to test it for sure. But I can most definitely tell a difference in cranking speed.

different system ,but do what you want with your fuel , what I said with the fuel in the cold country and paraffin is the true , in some north country you can find at the diesel station this "reporting" ARCTIC diesel -40 or Alpin diesel -18
