Post subject:  Changed timing belt and radiator, now have P0073

I recently had my timing belt changed, studs in, and a weeks stage one kit; had a minor ding in the radiator as it was wrapped up. The jeep sat til today while I was trying to find a place to get the radiator repaired since the temporary one wouldn't hold. Finally gave up and got a new one from IDParts. I got everything apart today and back together in about 3 hours. I really didn't want to take off the whole front of the jeep, but I couldn't figure out another way.
When I lit off the jeep I got a P0073. I did a search and found a lot of folks had it when the big headlight connector isn't together. Mine is, I verified all the lights worked after I was done. I am not sure where to check from here, I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Bud

The P0073 is for the ambient air temperature sensor. This sensor is on the grill panel and goes through the big headlight connector, if you turn the key on at all with the big headlight connector disconnected it will set the code. Since I always test start the engine while the timing belt cover and everything else off this is always set when I am done with a timing belt job.

Once set it will stay latched until clear.

Clear the code, it should go away, if not then the actually have a problem with the circuit.

Thanks Sam, I did a test crank to make sure I had no leaks before putting the bodywork back. Didn't cross my mind to clear codes and see if it returned. I will clear it later this evening after dinner. Thanks.

My sons libby had CEL on when we put it back together, we wanted to check that it would start before the reassembly of the front end, and after about 5-6 starts it went away, then the cel came back on and after few miles it went out. Never read with a code reader, but is doing great now, no CEL. So you might try that, after your reassembly. Some will re-set them selves.

Bud,
Do you still have the damaged radiator? I am interested in purchasing it for fabricating mounting brackets for an electric fan.
