Any good way of telling if the front shocks need replacing, I drive on some nasty dirt roads and have noticed that it is starting to sound like it is bottoming on the front fairly easily? Not dragging bottom but feels like the front springs or shocks are compressing completely when going over rough stuff.

How many miles are on your shocks?
If its more than 80K miles its probably time for new shocks.
However, the bottoming out you feel is probably due to your front springs being worn out and sagging.
This is a common problem on all Liberty models.

Around 85000 miles.

Hello dntlkbak,

I agree with flash7210 that you should probably replace your coil springs and shocks to really get the best feel for the money spent.

I replaced my coil springs and shocks, and it was an amazing improvement on the ride and the clearance.

I put on the follow:

Coil Springs
Fr - Old Man Emu (OME) 927
Rr - Old Man Emu (OME) 948

Shocks
Fr - Bilstein 24-139168
Rr - Bilstein 24-139175

Here is the comparison on my rig when I did them back around mid April of 2013...

BEFORE:

DURING:
Rear

Rear

Front (plus I replaced the Upper and Lower control arms)

AFTER:

... better clearance and better drive.

Of course that was when I was driving some smaller tires (Kuhmo 225/70/16s) so they look different now...

Good luck friend!

Check with JeepinbyAl, they have Ironman and OME springs, Bilstein, Ironman, Monroe, struts, shocks and many, many other suspension parts for our Jeeps.
And best of all they support our little Jeep CRD family...

Thanks for the input, I think I will maybe give them a change out.

What roof rack is the black one? Did you make it or bought it? Looks nice.

The 1/2 Rack is actually a small and heavy duty (ish) hitch-cargo-carrier.

I reviewed a bunch of Hitch-Cargo-Carriers online for quality & shape, and tried to find one that was small enough to fit next to my Yakima box (including the hitch stem being small enough), as well as be long enough and deep enough for cargo so that things will fit, and not slide out holes on the sides.

This one worked well for my needs: http://www.amazon.com/18145-Basket-Style-Cargo-Carrier/dp/B004QEKGA0/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

I bolted everything down (mounted against my yakima bars) with hardware from an Orchard Supply store, and I can post more information/pictures about that if you want. My 2.5 Diesel Can & 5 Gallon Water jug live up there.

:)

You have some very ingenious ideas. Yes please, if you can post some info regarding how to bolt it to the roof rack, I'll appreciate it.

Will do!

I'll take a bunch of pics and label the hardware, and then post them when I get back from being out of state. Heading back to my birthplace for a week ... to climb through magma tubes and black sand beaches.
:P

Thanks! Funny, was just googling "magma tube" and the second hit was this:

Quality Free Tube Porn Updated Daily. Free Sex Videos and Free Porn Movies at magmatube.com.

Dont think you're having that much fun though, lol. Is that related to volcanos?

Back from the Big Island - and no I wasn't doing the xxx magma tubes :ROTFL:

The magma tubes / lava tubes are the caves that form on volcanic area, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lava_tube.

Maybe you'll want to buy my off the grid place in Naalehu that I never see? :ALONE:

Yep, was a fun little week of vaca on the Big Island Dec9-Dec16, and it was too short! But still thoroughly enjoyed.

I would have loved to see that Off-Gird place of your Mountainman, and Naalehu is a nice area on the southern fin. You really selling it?

As far as the make-shift 1/2 roof rack goes, I'll be taking photos as soon as it stops pouring rain, and posting pictures right after that.

Happy to have the rain, and sadly finding some leaks at the same time. :?

I am about to replace the struts up front. I ha be the OME springs that added about 2" but that was 8-9 years+75000 miles ago so I am sure it has settled by now. I know I had ranchos before but I also know they are no longer available. What is the recommend strut now for my situation? I believe the bilsteins listed here should work but just wanted to verify.

My jeep is at 105k and I think the shocks and struts are original. It has a creaky bouncy ride. What do I need to replace and what is the cost in parts and labor? What brand , model do you recommend?
Thanks
