Post subject:  Symptoms of a bad transmission mount?

Just completed a long drive up to MD today.
Noticed a weird shake/vibration while driving.
Thought maybe it was wheel balance but it doesnt happen a certain speed.
Its most noticable under acceleration while in 4th or 5th gear. While cruising, everything feels fine.
Its not torque converter shudder, I know that feeling quite well.
It could be the motor mounts but there are no odd noises coming from up front. In fact there are no odd noises at all.
I feel it the seat (not steering wheel or foot pedals) which tells me that its something in the mid to rear part of the Jeep.

What do you think?
Trans mount, wheel balance, or something else?

I'm more inclined to suspect the u-joint. If you haven't had them replaced recently, check them, you can push the shaft up/down and see the play.

I certainly hope not.
I had a shop replace the u joints a year ago.
I am due for a tire rotate and balance so I will start there.

I'm gonna say u-joints too. They're probably not sloppy, but getting tight on one or more axes. You'll have to remove the shaft and see if they all flop around freely.

That's also possible, and checking is easy, just remove the 4 bolts in the rear differential axle and you should be able to check and get it unstuck easily. I wonder why those would be stuck though, since you live in Florida, where is not as much corrosion and bad weather like in north/mountain.

Or if you don't feel like going under the jeep, try soaking some pb blaster over the u-joint few times and see if things change while you drive. I always cover the ujoints with white grease where the movement is, and after it hardens up, add regular grease over, I do this every 3 months.

Do you have greasable ujoints? That would make it easy to get them unstuck...

Btw, you feel the transmission mount being loose/bad when you accelerate then decelerate, you hear the noise and the movement of the transmission up and down, especially down.
