Post subject:  Replaced FCM-Gateway
Approximately a year ago I had the Gateway Module (56044599AF) replaced at a dealership because the ASD fuse kept blowing. The vehicle ran for about a year, and now fuse blowing again. Just had someone tell me everything seems to check out ok, but he believes the FCM is bad (again). Questions: 1. Do these modules go out frequently? 2. What might be making it go bad? 3. I have been told by numerous people that this part must be programmed, but then many others that say they are just plug and play. Which is it? If they are plug and play i plan to replace myself. But I can't seem to find a consistent answer. 2005 Jeep Liberty diesel engine.. Thanks in advance.

bad ground, or most any bad connection could cause it to get damaged repeatedly. Highly unlikely that you just got 'lucky'.

I'd clean all grounds in the circuit, and look carefully at all pins with a bright light. You may find a pin inside one of the connectors that looks a little toasty (arching), or darkened from getting hot.

Is there any corrosion where the relay plugs in? I know that area can get some moisture so anything under the hood may be more likely to be suspect.

Not sure on the programming, someone will chime in and let you know though, rest assured :JEEPIN:

The ASD fuse supplies many components including the FCM.....check the circuit diagrams.

The FCM is located in a stupid position on the left front fender under the battery so that a lot of water, snow, mud etc. gets kicked up on it and shorts out the connector. So have a good look at the FCM and check the cabling and connector there.

Download the 2005 KJ Service Manual here...includes the circuit diagrams and should also tell you if the FCM needs programming...I doubt it as it has no drivers inside it. :?

The FCM is located directly under the fuse box, and directly behind the driver's side headlight. According to the manual, it does not have any drivers. Thanks for supplying the manuals.

The FCM (forward control module) or Gateway module is located in the engine bay. The BCM (Body control module) is the one that located with the fuse block in the cab.

Correct-I said fuse box which I guess technically is called the Power Distribution Center (in the engine compartment) which is directly behind the headlight.
