Boost pressure solenoid filter?

I was reading in my maintenance schedule that I need to periodically replace my "boost pressure solenoid filter." Can anybody tell me what and where this is located on the vehicle, and where I can acquire a replacement filter?

it's a small plastic enclosed filter that hangs from the vac directly behind the airbox. costs about $20 @ dealer, I wouldn't change it more than every 20K unless it's visibly dirty/clogged or wet. The filter is orange/reddish already doesn't seem to get very dirty @ all.

$20. Yikes. I paid around 5 for it. That was about a year ago.

I got mine from the dealer for around $10, with a discount, changed it. Haven't seen a difference, kept the old one in the glove box, just incase this one gets wet or plugged with SNOW. :lol:

I just hanged a G1 for my replacement, works great and less than $5.00.

Thank you. I'm new both to Jeeps and to diesel. I had my eyes on getting a new TDI, but this deal came up on a CRD KJ that I couldn't pass up. I love the way this thing drives - she's got GUT! I want to make sure I take tip-top care of her, so I'll be on this forum a lot to absorb as much information as possible.

What is the Mopar part number?

Part number is 5080374AA and is available at Moparpartsamerica.com . I just ordered 4 - I think that might be one of those hard-to-come-by parts here in the near future.

I've taken it out a few times and sucked/blew on it with my mouth and it never felt restrictive. I've driven through retard mud but somehow that thing avoided it. (i think once it hits the fan it's a ffa but still, that filter was clean.)

I would like to see one that actually needed to be replaced. I'd imagine that the media itself would fall apart before it became reasonably clogged by normal operation. I mean, in comparison to the stock airbox (witch i use) i cant keep a freekign air filter clean to save my life.

I'm with gmctd, surplus Briggs fuel filter or any thing else that fits :P.

Well, I'm more than willing to admit that it's just for peace of mind. (As opposed to piece of mind, which this forum is all about) I just don't want to be "that guy" whose turbo detonated because he didn't change the "boost pressure solenoid filter."

And just for the record, call your local dealer's parts department and time how long it takes the parts manager to decipher what you are talking about. Apparently their system has it listed as a vacuum filter. I wonder if it's HEPA?

. . . that's right folks, I'll be here all week. . .

All it does is provide filtered air source to the solenoid when venting the low-pressure side of the vane actuator - GM uses a small felt pad in the WG solenoid vent, Dodge uses Boost\MAP pressure to control the WG, no venting - for all three, no filter needed on the Baro side of the actuator

Haven't dug deeper to see if there are more recent posts on the "boost pressure solenoid filter" (this is the first one I found when searching), so I'm just posting here even though the thread's a bit old.

We just bought a second CRD and I was thumbing through the manual for the new one when I saw "schedule B." Seriously? They want us to change that filter every 6,250 miles? I can't imagine mine has EVER been changed. I pulled it out and took a look and it seems fine. "Suck and blow" saw no restriction whatsoever. Am I missing something?

The "real" thing I did learn from Schedule B is that I have been SERIOUSLY neglecting the fluid changes for my axels/differentials (which led me town the path of realizing I need to be more vigilant with the transfer case and transmission fluids too). Eeash. :oops:

The vacuum control solenoid that the filter attaches to can go bad and cause turbo boost problems.
But I cant be sure this is the fault of that little filter.
When I changed my solenoid I changed that filter too.
No need to replace it with the fancy mopar part. Just use a cheap fuel filter of similar dimensions.

I'll put in another vote for using a cheap fuel filter with the bottom cut off. That's what I've been using and it works fine, dirt cheap, just bring your old one into the shop and match it up to a similar looking paper fuel filter and cut the bottom off. Fini.

I replaced mine at 50k. Looked new. I think I'll stick with that interval.
