ABS and Brake light in the dash are both illuminated..........My Mac scanner shows a fault at start up but then clears. My speedometer works, however no mileage is accumulating on the odometer. How can this be?

I have a new vehicle speed sensor and repair kit on order from Mopar as I suspected the wiring was broken and I can see oily residue leaking from the VSS (rear axle mounted).

What I find strange is that my scanner shows four different channels even though this is a 3 channel system. ????

I had a similar problem a short while ago. There are many people smarter than my self on here. My problem was a pinched front ABS wire that comes down from inner fender well to the wheel hub. There have also been reported problems with the rear wire on 05s. That runs along the rear axle of course best way is to check continuity with an ohm tester.

Yeah, the odometer not working, mine did that. I think with that it's the wire to the sensor in the rear dif. I just had to splice in some wire where it had went bad from flexing about 2" from the sensor.

The real question is how long did previous owners let it run before they fixed it (I could tell it had been repaired once). My 190k mile CRD might have a lot more lol

Now you know the way to keep your value up :ROTFL:

Go Chrysler!

I ordered a speed sensor and a repair kit from Mopar and installed them tonight. My jeeps problem was a broken wire about one inch from the connector. I installed the harness kit and ABS and brake light were out. Test drive showed normal ABS operation as well as a properly functioning odometer!!! Woohoo

I'll post the Mopar repair kit number tomorrow. I almost think it should be added to the Noob guide as it seems very common.

I particularly liked when the dash lit up and it made a chime. Makes you think your precious engine is getting destroyed!

Wiring kit for the axle mounted Vehicle Speed Sensor is 5013995AA and has a list price of 37.98. The kit has two pig tails, heat shrink, connectors for crimping and it fits perfect. There is an aftermarket version that is very low quality and doesn't even have a seal inside the connector. I highly recommend the Mopar kit.

Vehicle Speed Sensor is 56041393AA and comes with the appropriate o-ring installed.

Amazon prime has the wire kit for $28 ish. I couldn't find it, but I think there is another kit that just has the 2 wires. This might be a good option since the terminals are removable from the connector.

I purchased the kit from my local dealer for 26.90. They frequently beat Amazon's prices on many small items. They can't really compete on the high dollar items but I always shop them and give them a chance.

Their parts counter folks are awesome.............the service department, that's a whole "nuther" story.
