Hey yall, I put together a little DIY roof cargo carrier (half-rack) http://www.amazon.com/18145-Basket-Style-Cargo-Carrier/dp/B004QEKGA0/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 on my KJ CRD about two years ago (see the pictures below). I wanted something that I could fit on the roof next to my Yakima pod, so that I could put my extra 2.5 gallon diesel can & 5 gallon water container. I have been asked to post some pictures of it, so we'll see how these do for now (probably be updated later). I realize now after two years, that I should have probably added another layer of protective paint before installing it, so do that first if ya want. I'll likely take it down and sand/paint it now, and then reinstall it. Front-ish view of the jeep, 1/2-rack and the Yakima box side-by-side (will probably take a closer up photo soon to show the distances between the two): ![]() Top view of the 1/2-rack with water container and diesel can (will probably take a wider angle photo soon to show the whole rack): ![]() Front view underneath the 1/2-rack showing the attachment points on the Yakima bars and the distance between the roof of the KJ and the rack: ![]() Inside-rear connection = U-Bolt + Plate (added lock-washers) used something like this http://www.osh.com/Osh-Categories/Tools-%26-Hardware/Building-Materials/Fasteners/Stanley-National-Hardware-2190-U-Bolt%2C-%23526-5-16-Inch-x-1-3-4-Inch-x-4-1-4-Inch%2C-Steel%2C-Zinc-Plated/p/6006738 ![]() Inside-front connection = U-Bolt + Plate (added lock-washers) used something like this http://www.osh.com/Osh-Categories/Tools-%26-Hardware/Building-Materials/Fasteners/Stanley-National-Hardware-2190-U-Bolt%2C-%23526-5-16-Inch-x-1-3-4-Inch-x-4-1-4-Inch%2C-Steel%2C-Zinc-Plated/p/6006738 ![]() Outside-front connection = U-Bolt + Plate (added lock-washers) used something like this http://www.osh.com/Osh-Categories/Tools-%26-Hardware/Building-Materials/Fasteners/Stanley-National-Hardware-2190-U-Bolt%2C-%23526-5-16-Inch-x-1-3-4-Inch-x-4-1-4-Inch%2C-Steel%2C-Zinc-Plated/p/6006738 ![]() Outside-rear connection (top view) = U-Bolt + Plate (added lock-washers) used something like this http://www.osh.com/Osh-Categories/Tools-%26-Hardware/Building-Materials/Fasteners/Stanley-National-Hardware-2190-U-Bolt%2C-%23526-5-16-Inch-x-1-3-4-Inch-x-4-1-4-Inch%2C-Steel%2C-Zinc-Plated/p/6006738 ![]() Outside-rear connection (bottom/side view) = U-Bolt + Plate (added lock-washers) used something like this http://www.osh.com/Osh-Categories/Tools-%26-Hardware/Building-Materials/Fasteners/Stanley-National-Hardware-2190-U-Bolt%2C-%23526-5-16-Inch-x-1-3-4-Inch-x-4-1-4-Inch%2C-Steel%2C-Zinc-Plated/p/6006738 ![]() |
