Hi all, I was just watching a YouTube video showing how to use a Bardahl EGR valve cleaner kit. Has anyone ever tried this on their CRD, or is it just a waste of time and money? Many thanks! |

I'd be afraid that crap would break off in chunks. Maybe if you did it regularly since the car was new and kept the coking to a minimum but I cant see it working well after 60, 80, 100k+ miles. Hell my jeep had a 1/4" of crap lining the intake elbow after only 50000 miles. |

Cleaning it a waste of time. By the time you dissasembled everything for cleaning you could have installed one of these and been done with it forever. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EGR-Valve-Delete-Block-Off-Plate-2005-2006-Jeep-Liberty-2-8l-CRD-Diesel-/301746937898?hash=item464184e02a:g:CtgAAOSw~gRV2Izm&vxp=mtr |

Why clean the egr??? Remove that doo doo. Weeks kit is the more popular kit we on lost use. Then get a tune so you won't have a cel |

I have no experience with that particular part but its inexpensive and easy to install so why not give it a try. Most of us here have disabled the EGR by one means or another. And most of the time doing so requires a special ECM tune to prevent the CEL from coming on. But the block off plate in that ebay listing does not require the removal of any parts or unplugging of any wires. So its possible that installing it may not cause the CEL come on. |

When I first got my Jeep CRD, I made a block off plate very similar to the one pictured and blocked off the ERG exhaust feed pipe. This did not cause any DTC to trip as the EGR valve and FCV was still functioning with no exhaust crap being dumped into the intake manifold. By far the best solution is to completely remove the EGR valve and FCV and all associated plumbing, pipes, tubes, etc... (requires a re-flash with one of the tunes available on this forum to turn off DTC check engine light when you unplug the EGR & FCV items). |

The best way to clean it, is to throw it in the trash and forget it existed. Much like the 6.0 Powerstroke its problematic and can cause far more harm then good. Mine was passing coolant into the intake manifold, 1 cracked head, 1 cracked liner, 4 new piston and liner assemblies (because the original piston rings dont exist) later and im back on the road. I'm not looking back. |
